Field Layouts \nfor Baseball, Softball, Shetland, Pinto, Mustang, Bronco, Pony andLittle League \nThis is the point where the arcs intersect. \nThis is the APEX. Drive astake into the ground here. This point will be used to measure out the restofthe field. \n This is the center of the backstop. \nField Orientation: \nAlign the field so that the pitcher is throwing across the sunrise/sunset line. \nStep 1: Triangulate The Backstop \nIf there is no backstop, position the apex of home plate in an appropriate spot. For positioning the apex of home plate using an existing backstop, start from one outside corner of the backstop and run a string or tape measure out toa couple of feet past where you think the pitching rubber will be. Scribe an arc. \nRepeat this process starting from the second post, making sure the second string or tape is the same length as the first. \nNext, measure and locate the center of the backstop. Extend a straight line from this point out to where the arcs intersect. Position the apex of home plate on this line, and depending on which type of field, a prescribed distance from the backstop. \nRecommended distance from backstop to apex: \n20' for Shetland and Pinto League (50' Field) 20' for Mustang League (60' Field) \n25' for Little League (60' Field) \n30' for Bronco League (70' Field) \n40' for Pony League (80' Field) \n25' for Softball (60' Field) \n60' for Baseball (90' Field) \nStep 2: Locate Second Base \nRun a line from the center point on the backstop, through the apex and over pitcher's mound to place second base on center. The distance to measure is from the apex of home plate to the center of second base. \nDistance from apex to center of second base: \n70' 8-1/2\" for Shetland and Pinto League (50' Field) 84' 10\" for Mustang League (60' Field) \n84' 10-1/4\" for Little League (60' Field) \n99' for Bronco League (70' Field) \n113' 2\" for Pony League (80' Field) \n84' 10-1/4\" for Softball (70' Field) \n127' 3-3/8\" for Baseball (90' Field) \n(These measurements are identical to the distance from the outside back corner of third base to the outside back corner of first base.) \nStep 3: Locate First Base and Third Base \nMeasure the appropriate baseline distance to third base from the apex and scribe an arc. Measure the same distance from the center of second base to third base and scribe another arc. Place the outside back corner of the base where the arcs intersect. Repeat to locate first base. \nDistance from apex and second base to first or third base \n50' for Shetland and Pinto League (50' Field) 60' for Mustang League (60' Field) \n60' for Little League (60' Field) \n70' for Bronco League (70' Field) \n80' for Pony League (80' Field) \n60' for Softball (60' Field) \n90' for Baseball (90' Field) \nStep 4: Set Home Plate \nDrawa line from the outside back corner of third base to the apex and from the outside back corner of first base to the apex. Align the back angles of home plate to match up \nwith these lines. \nDistance from apex to front of pitching rubber: \n35' for Shetland-Pinto-Mustang Softball (50' Field) \n38' for Pinto Baseball (50' Field) 40' for BroncoSlow-Pitch Softball (60' Field) \n44' for Mustang Baseball (60' Field) \n46' for Pony-Colt-Palomino Fast-Pitch Softball (60' Field) \n46' for Little League (60' Field) 48' for Bronco League (70' Field) 54' for Pony League (80' Field) \n46' for Softball (60' Field) 60' 6\" for Baseball (90' Field) \nStep 5: \nSet Pitching Rubber \nFollowing the straight line from the apex to the center of second base, measure a line from the apex to the spot where the front of the pitching rubber will be. Square up the pitching rubber by measuring an equal distance from the front corners of home plate to the corresponding corners on the pitching rubber. \n50' Shetland and Pinto League Field \n125' minimum to fence \nBases: \nPinto Baseball – 50'Shetland Softball – 55'Pinto Softball – 55'Mustang Softball – 55' \nPitching: \nPinto Baseball – 38'Shetland","cbCaittp4acZemHz","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaittp4acZemHz","pdf",331219,"English","# Field Layouts\n## Field Orientation\n## Step 1: Triangulate The Backstop\n## Step 2: Locate Second Base\n## Step 3: Locate First Base and Third Base\n## Step 4: Set Home Plate\n## Step 5: Set Pitching Rubber","[{\"question\":\"How should the field be oriented before laying out distances?\",\"answer\":\"Align the field so the pitcher is throwing across the sunrise/sunset line.\"},{\"question\":\"What is the purpose of triangulating the backstop?\",\"answer\":\"It establishes the apex of home plate by scribing arcs from outside corners of the backstop, then extending a line from the backstop center to the arc intersection.\"},{\"question\":\"How are first and third base locations determined?\",\"answer\":\"Measure the baseline distance from the apex to third base and scribe an arc; repeat using the distance from second base to third base, then place the outside back corner where the arcs intersect.\"}]","Field Layouts - Step-by-Step Field Diagram Guide | PDF"]
