While sourcesclose to the suit have told FIBER/LASER NEWS that no one remembers the exact sequence ofevents,Gould is sure that he provided the essential information for the laser's creationand development, while AT&T believes its scientists did. \nThe AT&T suit charges that Gould showed a \"1ack of candor\"in applying for his patentin 1959.The suit, filed recently in federal court in New York, also notes that Gould'spatent is not sufficiently different from one awarded to AT&T in 1960. \nGould's patent was finally approved in 1977 at which time--with the help of inves-tors--he began to aggressively pursue legal action against laser manufacturers.Gould hasalready successfully forced a number of companies, including General Photonics,JEC Lasers,LaserMation, and Molectron,to pay annual royalties to him. These average 5%of gross an-nual sales. \nGould's attorneys are also suing to get payments from Control Laser Corp.,GeneralMotors and other laser manufacturers.During the course of the Control Laser suit,Gouldsubpoenaed information from Bel1,an action that sources believe led in part to the AT&Tsuit.A favorable judgment for Control Laser could also mean an end to Gould's claims andthe royalty payments to him. \nThe declaratory judgment AT&T is seeking would actually render 2 patents invalid andunenforceable--patents 4,053,845(optically pumped laser amplifiers)and 4,161,436(methodof energizing a material). In the Control Laser case--which includes fellow defendantHolobeam Laser Corp.--Gould is claiming infringement of patent 4,053,845.The GeneralMotors case involves patent 4,161,436. \nO \nAT&T says the 2 patencs are invalid because they \"fail to comply with the require-ments of the patent laws of the U.S.,including Part II of the U.s.code,Title 35,","cbCaiaBRT6Xd7LY2","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaiaBRT6Xd7LY2","pdf",2841361,"English","# Fiber Laser NewS.\n## LOCKHEED TENTATIVELY SELECTED TO PROVIDE HARDWARE FOR LODE PROJECT\n## AT&T SUIT WOULD DISCREDIT GOULD's 'FATHER OF LASERS' CLAIM\n## CORNING SUES VALTEC CLAIMING OPTICAL FIBER PATENT INFRINGEMENTS\n## OPTICAL FIBERS MANUFACTURED IN YUGOSLAVIA","[{\"question\":\"What role did Lockheed tentatively selected to play in the LODE project?\",\"answer\":\"Lockheed was tentatively selected to provide hardware for DARPA’s high-energy laser large optics demonstration experiment (Lode), including pointing and tracking systems for the space-based laser program.\"},{\"question\":\"Why is the AT\\u0026T lawsuit significant for Gordon Gould’s claims?\",\"answer\":\"AT\\u0026T alleges Gould lacked candor in his patent application and challenges the validity and enforceability of related patents, which could undermine Gould’s precedence claims and disrupt royalty and licensing payments.\"},{\"question\":\"What dispute does Corning have with Valtec?\",\"answer\":\"Corning filed suit claiming Valtec violated Corning patents covering optical waveguide products and manufacturing processes, with details including fiber composition and methods of making optical waveguide products.\"}]","Fiber Laser NewS - Biweekly Report on Optical Fiber and Laser Technology | PDF",1790690442,23]
