insect-vectors of plant-virusesand have worldwide importance as the most important family ofcrop-pests.Out of estimated world fauna of over 4000 species ofaphids,placed under two families,Aphididae and Adelgidae ofAphidoidea,about 800 species are now known from India andadjacent countries.The“Fauna ofIndia and the Adjacent Countries”on Aphidoidea has been planned to be published in several parts,of which part I,dealing with General Introduction to the groupand subfamily Chaitophorinae and part 2,dealing with subfamilyLachninae were published in 1980 and 1982,respectively.Thepresent volume dealing with subfamily Pemphiginae covers 61species out of world fauna of about 250 species.Dr.A.K.Ghosh,the author of first two volumes and also of the present volumeis well known for his long experience of work and more than 100contributions to the subject,in India and abroad.His continuingwork has resulted in the fine volumes and I am sure that thepresent volume,like the earlier ones,will
