It explains why farmers choose cattle for income, space efficiency, use of farm by-products, and protein-rich food. The guide lists what to consider before buying, how to judge animal age, temperament, and health, and what feed resources—grass, grains, roughage, protein, minerals, vitamins, and energy ingredients—are needed for steady growth.","Fattening Cattle in Your Backyard \nlevel: intermediate \nEnglish Agriculture \nFattening Cattle in Your Backyard \nAdapted from a source believed to have originated in the Philippines \nEnglish Oxfordshire, England \nCopyright © 2019, MissionAssist \n[http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/](http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/) \nYou are free to make commercial use of this work. Is the place where you live a good place for keeping cattle? \n2. It is very important that you give your animals the right food. If you give them poor food or not enough food, they will not grow into good animals. \n3. You should make sure that they have good pasture. They must also have some grains, roughage with protein, minerals, vitamins, carbohydrates and fats. If you can get all these easily where you live, it will not cost too much to keep cattle. \n4. You will also need plenty of rice straw, corn stalks, copra mast, rice bran and molasses. \n5. You also need enough grass for the animals to graze all the year. \n6. You can get good animals from people who live near you, or from the markets where they sell cattle, or from farms where they sell cattle. \n7. Choose animals that do well in the place where you live. \nWhere to keep your cattle \nIf you are going to raise cattle in your back yard, you must have the right place for them to live. \nThey need a place that does not get too hot or too cold, and you must keep the animals out of too much sunlight. \nYou can make a shed out of materials that should be easily obtainable.
