DIOCESAN DIRECTORS\n\nFifty-six diocesan directors have been appoint-ed to promote family life programs in their respectivedioceses。Already there is much evidence that thishas been a very good move。Diocesan-wide programs havebeen started where none existed heretofore。Existingprograms have been given new impetus and have been ex-panded。A coordination of activities has been broughtabout。 \nReactions to earlier copies of Familygrams showa particular interest on the part of its readers in de-scriptions of organizations dealing with family lifeand in descriptions of programs that are being carriedon in various localities。Hence this issue will be de-voted entirely to examples of such organizations andprograms. \n# CONFRATERNITIES OF CHRISTIAN MOTHERS\n\nThere are l400 Confraternities of ChristianMothers in the United States affiliated with the \nArchconfraternity at St。Augustine Parish,Pittsburgh. The excellent work in behalf of the family, done overyears past and vigorously promoted today by these con-fraternities,is none too well known among some who areinterested in family life programs。There is much theycan learn from them。 \nThe main purpose of the confraternity unit isto help mothers in order that they may educate theirchildren to be ideal Catholics。Besides the attention \nregularly given the family at parish confraternitymeetings, regional conferences dealing with the familyare also held。Five such conferences were held thepast year。The theme for all of them was IMothers andthe Home.1 A total of 3,500 mothers attended thesegatherings。 \nOne very useful project carried on at the of-fice of the Archconfraternity is the distribution ofsmall leaflets。These deal with topics such as the fol-lowing:The Christian Mother;Printed Poison;AMother's Quiz;Santa Claus or Christ;Modern yetModest。Rev。Bertin Roll,0.F。M。Cap。,directs thework at the Archconfraternity's headquarters in Pitts-burgh。He is assisted by Mrs。Catherine Bulger。\"Hereat the Central Office,\"writes Father Bertin,\"we aredoing all we can to further the Family Holy Hour sug-gested by the Family Life Bureau;in fact, the St。Augustine unit is having a monthiy Family Holy Hour。\" \n# CATHOLIC MOTHERSI CIRCLES\n\nCatholic Mothers!Circles is the title given todiscussion groups for mothers in the Diocese of Hartford。The first Circle was started in 1933 and there has beena gradual growth of these study groups in the diocesesince that time。The Circles were initiated by the lateMrs。Rose K。Horrigan, who was at the time Chairman ofthe N。C。C.W。National Committee on the Family and ParentEducation。Rev。Frederick McLean is Spiritual Directorof the Circles。 \nThe following items regarding these Circles shauldbe of interest to individuals engaged in the promotionof family life activities: \nMembership。Membership is open to all Catholicmothers。 \nAim。The aim of the Mothers!Circles is to pro~mote a Catholic parent education movement that will em- \nphasize the various phases of child training wi.thin thehome;religious, social, physical, mental, emotionaland moral。 \nOperation。The meetings are held semi-monthly。The year begins September 15th andends the first week in June。 \nThe members in each group accomp.l.i.sh \nbest results with discussion and study if the numberdoes not exceed fifteen。However, each circle may regis-ter twenty。 \nA member who absents herself from three consec-utive meetings without sufficient reason is automatical-ly dropped and her
