It explains how meanings connected to “halal” (praise) connect with light and honor, then shows worship being distorted on earth through deception, pride, and sedition. The chapter also contrasts divine motives with Satan’s hunger for worship, culminating in Scripture about end-time worship of the beast versus worship of God.","CHAPTER 20 \nFallen Angels Worship God \nCreated to be a stellar angel, Lucifer possessed radiant attributes. The name Lucifer means star of the morning, daystar, light bearer, or shining one.1 In Isaiah 14:12, the NKJ renders the Hebrew word Heylel as “Lucifer”. The NAS renders it“star of the morning”, the NIV “morning star”, and the ESV “Day Star”. \nGod optimized features in Lucifer’s design for generating glowing expressions of praise. The Hebrew verb halal, most often translated in the Bible as praise, means to shine, to flash forth light, to be clear in sound or color, to rave and boast, or figuratively to shine God's favor. The noun Heylel (Lucifer) comes from the same primitive root word halal. In Hebrew script, they appear as ללֵ י הֵ and ללַ הָ respectively. God intended for Lucifer to shine like a star among heaven’s host―to sparkle in a luminous symphony of praise. \nEither through a contrived concept change or a semantic shift in terminology, expressions of praise have evolved into acts of worship. Perhaps Satan inspired and facilitated a cunning scheme of sedition to substitute praise (Halal) for worship (shachah) . \nLucifer’s Ambition Clashed with God’s Authority \nWith outspoken arrogance, Lucifer announced his intention to become more than an angel. He declared, “I will ascend above the tops of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High”.2 Designed to be an anointed cherub, Lucifer sought an extreme makeover.3 Created for celestial service, he pursued exaltation beyond \n1 [http://www.biblestudytools.com/](http://www.biblestudytools.com/) (retrieved 7-29-11) \n2 Isa 14:14 NAS \n3 Eze 28:14 NAS \npersonal merit. Instead of becoming more godlike, Lucifer became a corrupted evil adversary; Satan literally means adversary. \nAfter Lucifer rebelled from God and became Satan, praise and worship digressed on earth from its original design. Renegade ambition distorted the celestial precedent, bending an undisclosed number of angels away from God. Treason severed the cohesive bond that once integrated all angels in a concert of unanimous praise. Demonic opposition spoiled the collective sound of admiration, exaltation, and commendation. When Lucifer abandoned heaven’s protocol for reverence, pride and insubordination infected heaven’s consensus for worship. \nWe can only imagine how different the spiritual atmosphere may have been before Lucifer became Satan. Prior to this insurrection, crescendos of praise amplified a unified multitude of worshipers. Aware of God’s worth, single-minded angels extended praise with cohesive enthusiasm. The word enthusiasm comes from the Greek word entheos, which means inspired by God. \nDivine inspiration continues to motivate angelic responders today. Devoted archangels join loyal Seraphim and Cherubim as they charge the heavens with highest praise and deepest worship. From realms of intimate communion, holy angels radiate praise beyond visible spectrums and audible tones. They delight God’s supernatural senses with stunning sights and glorious sounds. \nLate Breaking News \nRebellion in heaven temporarily distracted worshipers on earth from offering their Heavenly Father what He deserves. When Adam and Eve yielded to Satan’s temptation, worshipers on earth changed the direction of their bow. Humanity collapsed headlong into a black hole contaminated with spiritual darkness. \nSelfish ambition distorted the truth about God as pride twisted motives for living. As a result, reverent responders failed to materialize in the biblical record for about two thousand years. Eventually Abraham and Job made biblical headlines by offering God a response of worship, as stated in the Hebrew text. \nDespite catastrophic consequences, Satan refused to abandon ill-conceived ambitions for godhood. While tempting Jesus in the wilderness, Satan presented a bribe in exchange for worship―a posture that God alone deserves.
