From 1 July 2021 all learners must have completed the HPT before they can take the practical driving test. Learners who have not passed the HPT will not be able to take the practical driving test and will forfeit their test fee. \nWhat are the eligibility requirements for the HPT? \nCustomers are eligible to take the HPT if they are at least 16 years and 6 months old and have held their learner licence for 6 months. They do not have to have completed their logbook to take the HPT. \nWhy did the Department of Transport and Main Roads move the HPT? \nThe hazard perception test was introduced into the graduated licensing system to help novice drivers measure their ability to recognise and respond to potential driving hazards before facing them on the road. \nMoving the test allows drivers who may lack the appropriate hazard perception skills to continue to build their skills through supervised driving before progressing to their provisional or open licence. Moving the test also brings the Queensland graduated licensing system into line with other jurisdictions who require a hazard perception test. \nDo all learners have to complete the HPT? \nAll learner licence holders (except for returning drivers, returning to a P2 or Open licence), regardless of their age are required to pass the hazard perception test before they can upgrade to the next licence class. \nHave customers been informed of the HPT changes? \nThe Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) has undertaken a significant communications campaign to ensure all customers are aware of the changed requirements for upgrading a learner licence. \nPublic communication of the changes commenced in February and included promotion of the changes across social media and TMR’s website. Personalised emails, letters or SMS were sent to all impacted customers who provided their contact details to TMR. \nCustomers also receive automated email notifications when they become eligible to take the HPT after having held their learner licence for 6 months, as well as a reminder at 11 months. \nWhere can I go for more information? \nMore information is available on [the QGov website at](the QGov website at www.qld.gov.au/hazardperception)[ ](the QGov website at www.qld.gov.au/hazardperception)[www.qld.gov.au/hazardperception](the QGov website at www.qld.gov.au/hazardperception). \nAny questions? \nIf you have any questions, please send these to [ILU@tmr.qld.gov.au](ILU@tmr.qld.gov.au).","cbCairwLBmOvKYDW","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCairwLBmOvKYDW","pdf",92758,"English","# Hazard Perception Test – 1 July changes\n## HPT requirements and eligibility\n## Why the test was moved\n## Who must complete the HPT\n## Customer communications and next steps","[{\"question\":\"Do learners have to complete the HPT before the practical driving test?\",\"answer\":\"Yes.
