Then, Persia conquered Babylon, and King Cyrus of Persia allowed 50,000 Israelites to return to Jerusalem.  \nKing Cyrus gave written permission for the Israelites to return to Jerusalem and rebuild the Temple.  \nAt first, the Israelites were excited to rebuild the Temple and the altar.
