Ron is a very, very experienced teacher who will be able to fill a myriad of roles at the College. How lucky are we to have Ron join our team. Ron will be teaching Year 9 Geography and next term he will step in to replace Shannon Treacy, who is taking Long Service Leave in Term 3. \nWelcome to Ms Sammi Moon. Sammi is a past student of the College and is currently undertaking a Mathematics and Psychology Degree. \nSammi has been granted Permission to Teach by the Victorian Institute of Teaching. She will be teaching Year 11 Methods, Year 8Z Maths and Maths support. Sammi will combine teaching with university study. We are so excited to have her join our team. \nMelbourne Storm visit \n(Credit: Tara Whittaker) \nOur Year 11 students were treated to an exceptional visit from Melbourne Storm player Josh King this week, who shared his remarkable journey and valuable life lessons in an engaging presentation. \nJosh revealed how he successfully balanced completing his electrician apprenticeship and playing full time NRL, often working a complete day before games. Students then got to head outside fora fun activity that relied on teamwork and leadership skills. \nWe acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the land, the Barapa Barapa people, on whose land we attend school. We pay our respects to elders, past, present and emerging, for they hold the memories, traditions and culture of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people of Australia. \nP A G E 2 \nBack in the classroom, Josh opened up about mental health challenges in professional sport and the negative impacts of social media. He shared how deleting his social media accounts helped protect his wellbeing and get back on track. \nCentral to Josh's message was the power of gratitude and perspective. He described his visits to children’s hospitals allowed him to see the big picture and realise that the struggles he was facing at the time were not as big as his mind was making them out to be, explaining the importance of seeing the big picture and putting things in perspective. Josh encouraged students to practice gratitude by identifying three things they're thankful for each night and emphasised the importance of talking openly and building strong support networks. \nMost importantly, Josh reminded students to believe in themselves. \nHis memorable closing message resonated strongly: \"Hard work beats talent when talent doesn't want to \nwork hard. \" \nWe extend our sincere gratitude to Josh King for sharing his experiences and inspiring our Year 11 students. His message about resilience, mental health awareness, and hard work will undoubtedly stay with our students as they navigate their futures. \nExcellamus - Let Us Excel! M rs.
