Then wegathered in the dining room fordevotions.…Bible reading,singing,thenprayer on our knees.  The whole familyparticipated,but I must admit that the smellof Mama's cooking made me want to hurrythe devotions just a little bit.After the Lord'sPrayer,we gathered in the kitchen to enjoyher wonderful fried chicken,or ham andeggs,or chicken livers and gravy,orwhatever she happened to have made.Thenit was out to Sunday School and church  \nMama sang alto on the Senior Choir.It was always a special treat when she andMr.Davis sang a duet.  Being an avidChristian,Mama raised us with patience andlove.   She always quoted appropriatescriptures to us.I can remember seeing herworking in the kitchen or ironing in thepantry while humming a hymn with abeautiful smile that lit up her face.Mamawas always available to help our neighbors intheir times of need…especially if they werefeeling poorly.She had such a sweet spiritabout her.She had a major heart attack atage 72 and a stroke on the day she was due tobe released from the hospital.
