This study examines 6–11-year-old students’ perceptions in elementary schools regarding informational support, emotional support, and closeness, considering grade level and teachers’/students’ demographics. It also adapts and tests the validity and reliability of an STR instrument for children’s perceived social support perspective in Turkey. Data come from 338 students; CFA, ANOVA, t-tests, and Chi-Square are used. Results show no grade- or gender-related differences overall, with grade differences on emotional support, informational support, and closeness sub-dimensions; CFA fit indices indicate strong consistency.",{"@graph":69,"@context":122},[70,84,105],{"@type":71,"itemListElement":72},"BreadcrumbList",[73,77,79,82],{"item":74,"name":75,"@type":76,"position":8},"https://docshare.wps.com","Home","ListItem",{"item":78,"name":9,"@type":76,"position":14},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/",{"item":80,"name":40,"@type":76,"position":81},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/research-report/",3,{"item":83,"name":65,"@type":76,"position":19},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/evaluating-the-student-teacher-relationship-in-elementary-schools-my-teacher-i-child/592597/",{"url":83,"name":65,"@type":85,"image":86,"author":91,"headline":65,"publisher":94,"fileFormat":97,"inLanguage":63,"description":67,"dateModified":98,"datePublished":99,"encodingFormat":97,"isAccessibleForFree":100,"interactionStatistic":101},"DigitalDocument",{"url":87,"@type":88,"width":89,"height":90},"https://docshare.wps.com/thumbnails/evaluating-the-student-teacher-relationship-in-elementary-schools-my-teacher-i-child/592597.png","ImageObject",300,407,{"name":92,"@type":93},"Mimi","Person",{"url":74,"name":95,"@type":96},"DocShare","Organization","application/pdf","2026-10-21","2026-10-15",true,{"@type":102,"interactionType":103,"userInteractionCount":81},"InteractionCounter",{"@type":104},"ViewAction",{"@type":106,"mainEntity":107},"FAQPage",[108,114,118],{"name":109,"@type":110,"acceptedAnswer":111},"What are the study’s two main purposes?","Question",{"text":112,"@type":113},"The study first investigates elementary students’ perceptions of informational support, emotional support, and closeness by grade level and demographic characteristics. Realizing the importance of this impact, the present study has two main purposes: \nfirstly, to investigate the perceptions of 6–11 year old students in elementary schools in terms of \nthe informational support, emotional support and closeness they receive based on grade level and \nthe demographic characteristics of teachers and students; and secondly, to conduct an adaptation, \nvalidity and reliability study of an instrument which can be used in Turkey to investigate STR \nfrom the children’s perspective of perceived social support. The data was obtained from 338 \nstudents. CFA, One-Way ANOVA, Independent Samples t-Tests and Chi-Square tests were \nemployed for the data analysis. According to the results, overall there is no significant difference \nin students’ perceptions based on the grade levels and students’ or teachers’ gender; however, \nthere are differences among grades on the bases of some scale items in emotional support, \ninformational support and closeness sub-dimensions. Additionally, the CFA revealed that the \nadapted My Teacher and I-Child Scale’s χ2/df, RMSEA, RMR, SRMR, GFI, and AGFI values are \nperfectly consistent. \nKeywords: Student-teacher relationship, Scale adaptation, Elementary education, Informational support, Emotional support and closeness, Elementary education. \nJEL Classification: I20: Genereal Education, 131 General Welfare, Well-Being. \nCitation | Aysegul Sukran Oz; Sevda Dolapçıoğlu (2019) .
