The work explains haiku structure—three non-rhyming lines with a strict 5-7-5 syllable pattern—and the expectation that each poem relates to nature. It then describes how mindful thought supports peace of mind and helps readers regain sight of what is truly important through brief daily quiet Art of MindfulThought and Haiku \nDennis Sidney Martin \n# Epiphany:The Art of Mindful Thought and Haiku\n\nEpiphany:The Art of MindfulThought and Haiku \nBy Dennis Sidney Martin \nomuat。D \nISBN:978-0-359-18466-8 \n◎ Copyright 2018,Dennis Sidney MartinAll rights reserved \nEpiphany:The Art of Mindful Thought and Haiku \n# Dedication:\n\nTo Jennifer Lake,my friend, mentor and Tai Chiinstructor who has taught me more about thevalue of mindfulness, patience and meditationthan anyone else in my life. \nReading this Book \nWe are all the product of what we see, hear, readand do.Consequently, some of the thoughtsexpressed in this book may sound familiar.Let itbe known that things presented here are simplythoughts that walked through my head as I waswriting them down. They are merely simplethoughts that might occur to anyone at any time. \nThis book is arranged with alternating Haiku (onthe left-hand)and Mindful Thoughts(on theright-hand)side of each page. Each is followedwith a simple line drawing for illustrationpurposes.Enjoy. \n# Haiku\n\nMany people are intimidated or,at best, put offby the mention of haiku. They may find it \nconfusing,contradictory or just downright silly.Actually,it is none of these things when youunderstand the structure and premise of thislovely form of Japanese inspired poetry. \nFirst of all,let us consider the structure.A haikuconsists of three lines of non-rhyming poetry.Lines one and three consist of exactly five(5)syllables;no more,no less.Line two consists ofseven(7)syllables.Count them.Sound them out. There must be exactly seven. \n# Epiphany:The Art of Mindful Thought and Haiku\n\nNext rule:the haiku must relate,in some way, tonature.Birds, bees, plants, animals, the sun, thesky, the moon and stars, the seasons;anythingthat has to do with nature. \nFinally,each line has a specific purpose.Line onesets the stage. It's like the introduction, the \nopening statement.Line two supports or expandson line one.Line three is the kicker. It often seemsto take the poem in a completely differentdirection. However,on closer inspection thereader realizes it is not only related to theprevious two lines, but gives them a whole newmeaning. This juxtaposition is the essence ofhaiku. \n# Mindful thought\n\nWhen I was a young lad I used to write down neatlittle sayings that I made up off the top of myhead.I thought,\"someday I will put them alltogether in a book for everybody to read.”Well,Iput a pin in that thought for the longest timebecause life kept getting in the way. Now,in myretirement years and with a lifetime of experiencebehind me,I finally have the time. \nWe usually hear of mindfulness in conjunctionwith the art of meditation. It is associated withliving in the moment without the stress andworries of the helter-skelter world.Mindfulthought is like that.It is reflective of those things \nthat are truly important in life:peace of mind, happiness, the things that bringjoy to everydayliving. \nOften our lives become so complicated with busyschedules or family and work obligations that welose sight of what is really important. The stress ofliving our lives leaves little time for reflection andwe begin to lose touch with what is really \nimportant.This is where mindful thought comesin. \nIt doesn't take long.Just a few short minutesevery day to sit quietly and reflect on those thingsthat are truly special to us can make all thedifference in the world. \nEpiphany:(As defined in Webster's Dictionary) \n·A usually sudden manifestation orperception of the essential nature ormeaning of something. \n● An intuitive grasp ofreality through \nsomething(such as an event)usually simpleand striking. \n● An illuminating discovery, realization, ordisclosure. \nSimple blade of grassSinging to the waxing sunCries a dewdrop tear. \n6 \nWisdom begs toknow the unknown. \n# Tripping on a cloud\n\nSoft at midday's open door,Parables abound. \nIt's the silver lining in thecloud that brings thenurturing rain. \n1 \n# Epiphany:The Art of Mindful Thought and Haiku\n\nD","cbCairtNUZRT2ekY","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCairtNUZRT2ekY","pdf",2220461,"English","#
