Prostate cancer is described as a major global malignancy whose multifactorial drivers include environmental, genetic, and especially epigenetic regulation. The review explains how epigenetic alterations—without changing DNA sequence—such as DNA methylation and histone modifications (methylation, acetylation, ubiquitination) influence tumorigenesis, progression, transcriptional control, and clinical utility. It highlights histone-based markers as diagnostic/prognostic candidates and potential novel drug targets.",{"@graph":69,"@context":123},[70,84,106],{"@type":71,"itemListElement":72},"BreadcrumbList",[73,77,79,82],{"item":74,"name":75,"@type":76,"position":8},"https://docshare.wps.com","Home","ListItem",{"item":78,"name":9,"@type":76,"position":14},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/",{"item":80,"name":35,"@type":76,"position":81},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/healthcare/",3,{"item":83,"name":65,"@type":76,"position":19},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/epigenetic-insights-into-prostate-cancer-exploring-histone-modifications-and-their-therapeutic-implications/367453/",{"url":83,"name":65,"@type":85,"image":86,"author":91,"headline":65,"publisher":94,"fileFormat":97,"inLanguage":63,"description":67,"dateModified":98,"datePublished":99,"encodingFormat":97,"isAccessibleForFree":100,"interactionStatistic":101},"DigitalDocument",{"url":87,"@type":88,"width":89,"height":90},"https://docshare.wps.com/thumbnails/epigenetic-insights-into-prostate-cancer-exploring-histone-modifications-and-their-therapeutic-implications/367453.png","ImageObject",300,407,{"name":92,"@type":93},"Aria Callaghan","Person",{"url":74,"name":95,"@type":96},"DocShare","Organization","application/pdf","2026-10-30","2026-09-23",true,{"@type":102,"interactionType":103,"userInteractionCount":105},"InteractionCounter",{"@type":104},"ViewAction",11,{"@type":107,"mainEntity":108},"FAQPage",[109,115,119],{"name":110,"@type":111,"acceptedAnswer":112},"What is the focus of this review on prostate cancer?","Question",{"text":113,"@type":114},"The review focuses on epigenetic regulation, specifically histone modifications, and summarizes their mechanistic and therapeutic implications in prostate cancer.","Answer",{"name":116,"@type":111,"acceptedAnswer":117},"Why are histone modifications considered important in prostate cancer progression?",{"text":118,"@type":114},"Histone modifications influence transcriptional regulation and thereby affect key cellular processes involved in tumorigenesis and disease progression.",{"name":120,"@type":111,"acceptedAnswer":121},"How can epigenetic markers in histone modifications be used clinically?",{"text":122,"@type":114},"The review highlights that these epigenetic markers may serve as diagnostic and prognostic markers and could be developed as novel therapeutic targets.","https://schema.org",{"og:url":83,"og:type":125,"og:title":65,"og:site_name":95,"og:description":67},"article",{"robots":127,"canonical":83},"index,follow",{"doc_id":129,"site_id":62},367453,1790532526,{"code":4,"msg":5,"data":132},{"doc_id":129,"user_id":133,"nickname":92,"user_avatar":134,"doc_module":4,"category_id":34,"category_name":35,"doc_title":65,"doc_description":67,"doc_content":135,"file_id":136,"file_url":137,"file_type":138,"file_size":139,"view_count":105,"is_deleted":4,"is_public":8,"is_downloadable":8,"audit_status":8,"page_count":140,"language":141,"language_code":63,"site_id":62,"html_lang":63,"table_of_contents":142,"faqs":143,"seo_title":144,"seo_description":67,"update_tm":145,"read_time":146},962084926284,"https://ap-avatar.wpscdn.com/davatar_29158cc5080c5b710cf443261637dec0","TYPE Review \nPUBLISHED 28 April 2025 \nDOI 10.3389/fonc.2025.1570193 \nOPEN ACCESS \nEDITED BY \nDaekyu Sun, \nUniversity of Arizona, United States \nREVIEWED BY \nR. This cancerous condition originates within the prostate gland, an integral part of the male reproductive system. The molecular mechanism underlying cancer is among the key areas of research in the scientific community. Cancer, being amultifactorial disease, is controlled by many factors ranging from environmental to genetic to epigenetic factors. Epigenetic regulation holds a crucial role in tumorigenesis and its progression. Epigenetics refers to alterations in the genome that happen without any changes to the DNA sequence itself; they may be triggered by multiple factors ranging from environmental to dietary factors. It includes methylation of DNA and histone modifications. Histone modifications, including histone methylation, histone acetylation, and histone ubiquitination, play a crucial role in the pathogenesis and progression of prostate cancer. These epigenetic modifications via transcriptional regulation affect key cellular processes and are thus implicated in prostate cancer and other cancers. These epigenetic markers could be used as both diagnostic and prognostic markers and also could be used as novel therapeutic targets against prostate cancer and other malignancies. Here in this review article, we have summarized different histone modifications and their mechanistic and therapeutic implications in prostate cancer. \nKEYWORDS \nprostate cancer, epigenetics, histone modification, therapeutics, epigenetic modifications \nFrontiers in Oncology 01 [frontiersin.org](frontiersin.org) \nSharma et al. 10.3389/fonc.2025.1570193 \nGRAPHICAL ABSTRACT \n1 Introduction \nProstate tumor stands as the second most prevalent diagnosed malignancy and the fifth ","cbCailrIOmQ2vRPT","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCailrIOmQ2vRPT","pdf",5132938,15,"English","# Introduction\n## Prostate cancer burden, risk factors, and current diagnosis\n## Epigenetics and rationale for histone modifications\n# Histone modifications and mechanistic roles in prostate cancer\n## Histone methylation\n## Histone acetylation\n## Histone ubiquitination\n# Diagnostic and prognostic potential\n# Therapeutic implications and emerging targets","[{\"question\":\"What is the focus of this review on prostate cancer?\",\"answer\":\"The review focuses on epigenetic regulation, specifically histone modifications, and summarizes their mechanistic and therapeutic implications in prostate cancer.\"},{\"question\":\"Why are histone modifications considered important in prostate cancer progression?\",\"answer\":\"Histone modifications influence transcriptional regulation and thereby affect key cellular processes involved in tumorigenesis and disease progression.\"},{\"question\":\"How can epigenetic markers in histone modifications be used clinically?\",\"answer\":\"The review highlights that these epigenetic markers may serve as diagnostic and prognostic markers and could be developed as novel therapeutic targets.\"}]","Epigenetic insights into prostate cancer: exploring histone modifications and their therapeutic implications | PDF",1790170851,38]
