The people there were extremely \nwelcoming to us when we first arrived and were so kind and helpful during the whole experience. \nDuring our visit, we got to see many cool artifacts like a Native American log house, bark house, their clothing, gear, and things they used in their daily life. We were even lucky enough to sit in their beds to get a kind of feel ofwhat it was like. We learned many details of their daily lives and how they would go about each day, everything from who did what roles to how women carried their babies. The tour guides were very good at answering any questions we had and giving helpful information. The staff was also kind enough to let us take a ride on the carousel and visit the blacksmith. \nWe were there because we had recently been learning about Native Americans and their culture. In class, we talked about Native American storytelling and their beliefs. While we were there, we learned more about their culture. We learned that they didn’t have much money, so while the fathers and sons were off hunting, the women would make designs out of glass beads and beads that they made from shells on bags that they had also made. They also used everything like walrus intestines, deer skin, and other things from nature. \nBefore Europeans came, Native Americans used deer skin for windows instead of glass. When Europeans came, they had materials that Native Americans didn’t have, so they often traded pelts and other materials they had from nature for the things that Europeans had. \nWe asked some of our classmates what their favorite part of the visit was. Here are their \nanswers! \nAzzy Papke: “Making Timatha (corn husk doll) and getting Soobin.” \nChloe Gridley: “Being able to see the lake and going into the Bark House.” \nNatalie Keating: “Getting to see a really wide range of artifacts from recent years and all the way back to Native American styles.” \nMiles Broedel: “Being on my phone… And the bus ride.” \nClare Sparber: “The carousel.” \nNolan Dunlay: “Probably leaving.” \nEmerald Press \nAndrew Lafrance: “Getting on the bus to leave.” \nInfo Credits: Freshman Class, Fenimore Art Museum and Farm \nPhoto Credits: Azzy Papke, Donna Moren \nSchool Spotlights \nGuess that Teacher! \nBy: Ryan Verbitsky \nWelcome back to the EP!
