The 41 students in grade 10 whose ages are 16 were divided into 2 groups-a control group and an experimental group. Both groups had to finish a pre-test and a posttest at the beginning and at the end of the research time. However, the experimental group used the Duolingo app during the research caried out while the control one did not. With the researcher's encouragement and instruction, the regular use of Duolingo to learn pronunciation in 6 weeks has proven that applying this app to the learning process helps students improve their pronunciation and gain more confidence in speaking lessons.  \nKeyword: high school students, Duolingo, pronunciation,interest in learning, grade 10.  \n1. INTRODUCTION  \nEnglish has been considered the world standard language despite changes during the 21st century. English is a tool that not only gives people opportunities to open windows to the world but also expands the human's mind. According to EF (Education First) [1], countries where inhabitants with good English skills have a better quality of life (Chart 1) .  \nChart 1. The correlation between English proficiency and the Human Development Index  \nMany people think that pronunciation is a superfluous skill which only possessed by a few, however, clear, casual, and fluent speech is essential to language acquisition and use [2] . While L2 language learners (second language learners) may have different aims to concern about pronunciation (they can be dialects, accent, or fluency), the fundamental importance of pronunciation depends on intelligibility and  \nability to understand as well [3]. Morley says clear pronunciation plays a significant role as a component of communicative competence (1987)  \n[4] . Nevertheless, for many adult language learners, pronunciation does not improve despite practicing the foreign language over significant amounts of time. Elliott (1995) [5], Han & Odlin (2006) [6] and Solon (2016) [7] demonstrate that input alone is not enough to improve pronunciation in traditional language classrooms with a long timeframe lasting.  \nTo tackle the practicing pronunciation problems, advanced technology has provided people plenty of opportunities to better skill. The software assisting learners to practice foreign language has become a prominent sector of the technology. Today, there are hundreds of brands on the market and many of them focus on marketing language learning as fast and fun, such as ELSA, Memrise, Voxy, BBC Learning English, English listening, Talk English and so on. Specifically, for pronunciation, researchers indicate that using them can lead to significant improvement in L2 language pronunciation in hours to weeks when treatment [8] . To better understand how contemporary software treats pronunciation exercises, this research considers how the software works to help learners access the practice.  \nThe research concentrates on how using Duolingo Free Language Learning Application enhances pronunciation for high school students. Duolingo  \ndevised by Luis von Ahn and Severin Hacker in 2011 is a kind of Computer-assisted Language Learning Software. The study's purpose is to measure the effectiveness of online language learning programs properly, with a special focus on user experience when learning English pronunciation of Duolingo. The writer aims to analyse more about the content of Duolingo application and the appropriateness of using Duolingo as learning by researching kinds of exercise.
