Feature selection is used to reduce the volume of memory-derived data by keeping only the most relevant features for classifiers. Three feature-selection approaches are applied to memory content, and the selected features are evaluated across three malware classification levels: benign-versus-malware (binary), malware type recognition including Trojan horse, ransomware, and spyware, and malware family classification within families with varying numbers of classes. Extensive experiments show that mutual-information-based feature selection combined with ensemble learning improves accuracy across all tasks.
