Discuss Edmund Spenser as popular poet of the Elizabethan Age. OR Evaluate Spenser as the 'Poet's Poet'. OR Critically appreciate Spenser as a high priest of style and elegance . \nOR The Faerie Queene . OR Literary contribution of Spenser in the realm of the Elizabethan poetry. \nAns. Edmund Spenser (1552-1599) has been the most leading poet of the Elizabethan Age after Philip Sidney. He has enriched the realm of English poetry with varieties of poems like sonnets, pastoral elegy, allegory romance, lyrics etc. It is said that the best poetry of the Elizabethan age went into the drama, and, apart from Spenser, no one can compare with Shakespeare as the writer of verse. He was a master of the poetic art and was acknowledged by his contemporaries as a master. \nSpenser's life little is known. He was born in East Smithfield, near the town of London. He was from a very poor family background. He was an undergraduate at Cambridge and liked by the elegant and the clever. His art made him some friends, and his intelligence others. The Earl of Leicester might have helped him. He went to Ireland and he was under the rebel so returned England where he died. \nSpenser, like all great artists, felt the form and pressure of his time conditioning his writing. He was aware of a desire to make English a fine language, full of magnificent words, with its roots in the older and popular tradition of the native tongue. He had the ambition to write in English poems which would be great and revered, as the classical epics of Homer and Virgil. \nDuring his literary journey, Spenser came into view in London during the year 1579 as a member of the famous literary circle surrounding Sir Philip Sidney. Sidney patronised Spenser, introducing him to the Queen and encouraging him in his imitation of the classical metres. In 1580 Spenser was appointed secretary to Lord Grey de Wilton. There he remained for eighteen years, serving the English Government. He married an Irish woman. \nThe literary journey of Spenser is summed up here: \n• View of the Present State of Ireland: It is the only prose work by Spenser discussing a plan for pacifying the oppressed and rebellious people. \n• Amoretti : It is a good sonnet sequence written in order to pay honour toa beautiful Irish lover of Spenser, Elizabeth Boyle. \n• Epithalamion: It is a poem celebrating wedding ceremony of Spenser with Elizabeth Boyle. It is the most beautiful wedding hymns. \n• The Shepherd's Calender: It is the best poem of Spenser. It consists of twelve pastoral poems, or eclogues, one for each month of","cbCainIt6Amq8xnE","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCainIt6Amq8xnE","pdf",1875982,63,"English","# Unit 1: History (Elizabethan Age to Neo-Classical Age)\n## Long Answer Questions (Unit 1)\n## Short Notes Questions (Unit 1)\n# Unit 2: Text and Questions (Drama)\n## Long Answer Questions (Unit 2)\n## Short Notes Questions (Unit 2)","[{\"question\":\"What is the subject of English Paper 14 (CCE 14)?\",\"answer\":\"It is centered on History of English Literature from the Elizabethan Age to the Neo-Classical Age, including specified authors and texts.\"},{\"question\":\"Which author and work are required for Unit 2?\",\"answer\":\"Unit 2 text is The Jew of Malta (Drama) by Christopher Marlowe.\"},{\"question\":\"What question types are included in the semester end examination?\",\"answer\":\"The paper includes five long-answer questions (two for Unit 1 and two for Unit 2) and short notes questions for both Unit 1 and Unit 2, with marks indicated for each section.\"}]","English Paper - 14 - TYBA SEM. 5 Core Course in English (CCE 14) - History of English Literature: Elizabethan Age to Neo-Classical Age - Semester End Examination | PDF",1789940577,159]
