It outlines how to plan rich mathematical activities, find meaningful contexts, and organise learning to support collaborative problem-solving, modelling, and the use of technology and varied resources. The guide connects curriculum aims to evaluation, illustrated through case studies and practical, school-focused questions for curriculum innovation.",{"@graph":14,"@context":73},[15,34,56],{"@type":16,"itemListElement":17},"BreadcrumbList",[18,23,27,31],{"item":19,"name":20,"@type":21,"position":22},"https://docshare.wps.com","Home","ListItem",1,{"item":24,"name":25,"@type":21,"position":26},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/","Document",2,{"item":28,"name":29,"@type":21,"position":30},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/exam/","Exam",3,{"item":32,"name":10,"@type":21,"position":33},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/engaging-mathematics-for-all-learners-educational-guide/272652/",4,{"url":32,"name":10,"@type":35,"image":36,"author":41,"headline":10,"publisher":44,"fileFormat":47,"inLanguage":8,"description":12,"dateModified":48,"datePublished":49,"encodingFormat":47,"isAccessibleForFree":50,"interactionStatistic":51},"DigitalDocument",{"url":37,"@type":38,"width":39,"height":40},"https://docshare.wps.com/thumbnails/engaging-mathematics-for-all-learners-educational-guide/272652.png","ImageObject",300,407,{"name":42,"@type":43},"Evangeline","Person",{"url":19,"name":45,"@type":46},"DocShare","Organization","application/pdf","2026-10-30","2026-09-15",true,{"@type":52,"interactionType":53,"userInteractionCount":55},"InteractionCounter",{"@type":54},"ViewAction",8,{"@type":57,"mainEntity":58},"FAQPage",[59,65,69],{"name":60,"@type":61,"acceptedAnswer":62},"What They need to see that the subject is fascinating and exhilarating, to see the way it affects everyday life and helps to change the world in which we live. \nWe have to strike a balance between the challenge of incremental steps in understanding, knowledge and skills, and the joy, wonder and curiosity of learning. It is not about 'basics' and'enrichment', all children should have a rich experience. \n'Engaging mathematics for all learners' draws together the experience of teachers and their learners as an inspiration to other teachers of mathematics as they implement the new programmes of study. The rich variety of content, from using recreational activities as a starting point for classroom mathematics in a residential special school to using fashion design in a mathematics and art initiative in a selective girls'school, illustrate some of the possibilities. Working with \nexploiting ICT and making sense of mathematics and statistics in the media are \nsome of the innovative approaches adopted by schools to enhance the learning of mathematics. \nBeing willing to take risks, identifying the mathematics potential of rich tasks, giving learners the opportunity to tackle something different and unusual … These are all themes to be exploited and used. \nEnjoy this publication, exploit the ideas and enjoy mathematics with youngsters. \nMick Waters \nDirector of Curriculum Qualifications and Curriculum Authority \nPHOTO REDACTED DUE TO THIRD PARTY RIGHTS OR OTHER LEGAL ISSUES \n5 \nIntroduction \nThe new secondary curriculum aims to inspire all young peo","cbCaitvDVzxaiBoh","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaitvDVzxaiBoh","pdf",638454,48,"English","# Foreword\n# Introduction\n## What are you trying to achieve?\n## How will you organise learning?\n### Planning a compelling learning experience\n### Getting started – what are rich mathematical activities?\n### Some strategies for devising and working with rich mathematical activities\n### Finding rich contexts for mathematics\n## How will you know that you are achieving your aims?\n# Case studies\n## Every Child Matters – using recreational activities to engage learners\n## Every Child Matters – working inclusively with all ability groups\n## Historical and cultural roots of mathematics – understanding numbers\n## Historical and cultural roots of mathematics – the golden ratio\n## Modelling with mathematics\n## Mathematics in society – ‘number sense’\n## Mathematics in society – technology and the environment\n## Mathematics across the curriculum – performing arts\n## Mathematics across the curriculum – STEM\n## Mathematics across the curriculum – STEM and PE\n## Mathematics and curriculum dimensions – healthy lifestyles\n## Mathematics and curriculum dimensions – technology and the media\n## Mathematics and curriculum dimensions – creativity and critical thinking\n## Using timetable opportunities for engaging mathematical activities 1\n## Using timetable opportunities for engaging mathematical activities 2\n## Working together to trial engaging mathematical activities (Bowland maths)\n## Working together to introduce rich tasks into the mathematics curriculum for all learners\n# Working together to engage learners\n## Making it happen\n# Resources\n# Acknowledgements","[{\"question\":\"What is the main goal of engaging mathematics for all learners?\",\"answer\":\"To ensure every learner experiences mathematics as worthwhile, enjoyable, and challenging, with opportunities to solve problems, model, and work collaboratively across varied contexts.\"},{\"question\":\"How should teachers organise learning for rich mathematical activities?\",\"answer\":\"By planning a compelling learning experience, using strategies to design rich tasks, and finding rich contexts that connect mathematical ideas to everyday life and society.\"},{\"question\":\"How can schools know they are achieving their curriculum aims?\",\"answer\":\"By reflecting on enrichment and enhancement within the curriculum, using the guide’s evaluation focus aligned to the three key questions and monitoring the effectiveness of the approach.\"}]","Engaging mathematics for all learners - educational guide | PDF",1789466697,121]
