The school has taken steps to be prepared in the case of an emergency. Our staff is trained to deal with a variety of circumstances. We conduct monthly fire safety drills and quarterly emergency drills with children during the school day. The school has a response procedure for:  \n􀁸 Evacuation to the playgrounds or other nearby building, depending on what is necessary.  \n􀁸 Shelter in place, prompted by an environmental or other emergency.  \nIf possible during an emergency, we will post our status on our website [at kidsplacewallawalla.org](at kidsplacewallawalla.org).  \nEMERGENCY RESPONSE  \nIn all emergencies TKP will follow the instructions of local emergency responders, such as police or fire department officials, who would manage the response and provide instruction to parents. Please note that in the case of a shelter-in-place scenario, children will be kept at school until authorities deem it safe to leave. Should school need to be cancelled, TKP will notify you by phone or text to come to school immediately to pick up your child(ren). We will keep children calm, comfortable, and occupied indoors until you arrive. Please do not call the school since incoming calls will impede our ability to contact parents.  \nCOMMUNICATION  \n1. The Kids’ Place (TKP) staff first and foremost keep children safe and calm during and emergency. Staff will continue to follow through daily routines as much as possible during any emergency.  \n2. If possible, all parents will be alerted via text and/or email and information will be posted on the website ([kidsplacewallawalla.org](kidsplacewallawalla.org)). In case TKP is evacuated, we will relocate to the nearest, safest space depending on the type of emergency and weather conditions. Evacuation destinations in priority order include:  \nReid Campus Center, next door.  \nThe field at the dead end of Shady Rill Street (behind Marcus House)  \nBraxton Tennis Center (corner of Boyer Avenue and Marcus Street) .  \nGreen Park Elementary School (WW County designated emergency shelter)  \n5. Mobile electronic devices and a battery operated radio, kept on site at TKP, will alert the center of disaster and what steps to take.  \n6. Parents can tune to KONA 105.3 GM or 610 AM for information. Please follow shelter in place or evacuation guidelines until given the all-clear signal. Children will be safe at TKP while we follow emergency procedures.  \n7. If there is a medical emergency at any time, TKP staff will call 911.  \nPLANS FOR SPECIFIC EMERGENCIES Earthquake:  \nChildren and staff will drop, cover, and hold under tables or safe areas during an earthquake. We will evacuate if necessary to the closest emergency shelter or the Reid Campus Center. Staff will examine children for medical needs and call 911 if there is a serious medical emergency. If the school were damaged, we would notify parents and ask that children be picked-up by an authorized person when it is safe to do so.  \nFire:  \nIf there is a fire in the building, we will follow emergency evacuation procedure to the nearest safe location. If there is a fire nearby, we will follow emergency responder directions to shelter in place or evacuate to the nearest safe location as necessary.  \nFlood:  \nIf we are required to evacuate immediately, we will move to the Reid Campus Center top floor lounge area.
