Families
BOOK AVAILABILITY
Publishers and/or their vendors occasionally stop publishing or distributing a book that is used in the ELM Curriculum as a required part of an activity or as an Optional Reading resource. ELM Academy staff and content experts work carefully to identify high-quality book alternatives that are available through a national resource, particularly Amazon or Barnes & Noble. We also thoroughly revise affected activity plans to provide guidance on how to use the alternative book(s) or other resource, such as a manipulative item. In some situations, we develop a fully new activity option that may be used as an alternative to the original plan and addresses the same learning goal.
Revised ELM activity plans continue to include a book that was originally a required part of an ELM activity when the book may be challenging to secure. Some early childhood centers may have the book and/or a publisher or vendor may decide to make the book available again. A book that was originally suggested as an optional resource is not continued in the Optional Reading list of a revised activity plan unless the book is explicitly mentioned in a Scaffolding Tip, Center Activity, or Family Child Care activity. Alternative books are offered in a revised Optional Reading list when a book in the original list may be challenging to secure. All books that may be challenging to secure, both required and optional, continue to be listed in the revised Materials List; they are cited with a notation that indicates the book may be challenging to secure.
A revised activity plan includes an UPDATE explanation at the beginning of the plan for a required book that may be challenging to secure. A revised Optional Reading list includes a“Revised” notation and date at the bottom of the list. Revised activity plans are announced in the UPDATES section of the website that hosts the ELM Curriculum and are made available on the website as soon as possible. The affected Materials List is also revised and uploaded to the website.

| Classroom Materials |
| --- |
| 3–5 Years |
| WEEK 1 |
| CLASSROOM ITEMS |
| Language/Literacy |
| Chart paper
Marker
General Sound Effects CD
CD player |
| Mathematics |
| 4 identical cups
5 crayons
5 identical counters Small box
5 pencils
5 markers
1–5 bottles of glue
Counters or other items of interest to children, such as cars, teddy bear counters (Center Activity) Math manipulatives, such as cubes (Center Activity)
Bowl (Center Activity)
Weeks (Center Activity) |
| Self-Regulation |
| Your posted classroom schedule |
| Social-Emotional |
| Favorite toy Week Lego®
Ball Beanbag
2 puppets
Small toy
Additional toys or items that may encourage pretend play, such as small blanket, small felt pieces, craft stick, straw, craft tube (Center Activity) |
| Social Studies |

Large pieces of butcher paper—per child
Small nonbreakable mirrors or access to a freestanding mirror (Center Activity)
Top hat, baseball cap, bow, mustache, different glasses, beads, hair bands (Center Activity) Crayons (Center Activity)
Markers (Center Activity)
1

| Classroom Materials |
| --- |
| 3–5 Years |
| WEEK 1 continued |
| Creative Expression |
| CD player Best of Raffi CD
2 puppets
Various art materials that are consistently available to children (Center Activity)
Various materials t","cbCaiphk8Gwahg8q","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaiphk8Gwahg8q","pdf",1327470,296,"English","# Classroom Materials
## 3–5 Years
## Week 1 - Classroom Items
## Week 1 continued - Books and Optional Readings
## Week 1 continued - Printable Format Items
## Week 2 - Classroom Items","[{"question":"What age group and time span does the materials list cover?","answer":"It serves children 3–5 years of age and organizes materials by weeks 1–50."},{"question":"How does the guide handle situations when a required or optional book is hard to obtain?","answer":"ELM staff identify high-quality alternatives available through national resources and revise affected activity plans to explain how to use the alternative book or other materials."},{"question":"Where are printable-format resources listed in the guide?","answer":"Printable-format items are included under the classroom materials section for the applicable week, with separate listings by learning domain (e.g., self-regulation, social-emotional, social studies, creative expression, physical/health)."}]","ELM Preschool Materials Lists - Curriculum Materials for Classrooms Serving Children 3–5 Years of Age Weeks 1–50 | PDF",746]
