The battery-operated Mode1167 is designedfor use wherever electrical measurements must be made,such asin research and design labs and production areas.  \nA pers onal early-warning system for patients with a history ofcardiac disease or those in a very high-risk heart attackcategory has been developed by Cardiodynamics Inc.,Dublin,Ca1.\"VIDA\"(Ventricular Impulse Detector and Alarm)is a pocket-sized device that continuously monitors a patient's  \nelectrocardiogram(ECG)and notifies the patient of heartbeatirregularities,that signify a possible heart attack,so he canseek aid.  \nVIDA is a miniature computer,powered by a transistor battery,and gets its heart signals from two small electrodes taped toa patient's chest.  The system registers the heartbeat and isprogramed to sound a beeping alarm in case of abnormalities.In addition,the system is designed to transmit the patient'selectrocardiogram through an ordinary telephone to a receiverLocated at a doctor's office or hospital.
