We hope you had a restful break and are ready for the year ahead.  \nGeneral News  \nThe academic year 2024-25 saw many teachers access online and face-to-face professional learning (PL) sessions, hundreds of teachers trained to examine GCSE responses and thousands of candidates receive excellent GCSE results for the Eduqas GCSE RS, at both the Full Course and Short Course. Our authors and presenters are busy preparing for this year’s PL opportunities and our Principal Examiners have written a comprehensive examiners’ report ready for you to access. We are looking forward to a busy and productive year supporting you to teach our GCSE.  \nImportant News  \nThe Full and Short Course GCSE RS specifications have been updated this summer and are available on the website now. The following changes have been made:  \nComponent 1 – Issues of Life and Death – all sections: ‘Humanists for a Better World’ has been changed to ‘Humanist Climate Action’.  \nComponent 1 – Issues of Human Rights – Judaism section: ‘Tzedek’ has changed to ‘Jewish World Relief’ and ‘J.Core’ has changed to ‘HIAS (Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society)’.  \nComponent 2 in Route A and B – The 2021 census has been added alongside 2011 and 2001. Wording showing ‘over half of Britain considered themselves Christian’ has been removed.  \nComponent 3 Buddhism – The wording ‘Boddhisatva Amida’ has changed to ‘Amida Buddha’.  \nProfessional Learning Opportunities  \nOur new Assessment Feedback Package for 2025-26 is an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of how assessments are marked or moderated. The wording will be adapted slightly for summer 2026 to make all assessments more accessible for learners with Special Educational Needs. These changes will benefit all learners as sentence structures will be easier to comprehend and will reduce the cognitive load on learners in exams.  \nAssessment Objective 1 – ‘a’ questions  \nThese will always be taken from the listed key concepts in the specification. (Note – the Full Course and Short Course concepts may differ. ) Candidates are expected to briefly define the key concept, either using the definition in our glossary or their own words. They do not need an example but sometimes an example helps candidates receive a mark if their definition isn’t quite accurate.
