mixed levels of readi-ness among the first batch of SijilPelajaran Malaysia(SPM)candi-dates who have never sat for anymajor national examination suchas the Ujian Pencapaian SekolahRendah(UPSR)or PentaksiranTingkatan3(PT3). \nMalaysian School PrincipalsCouncil president Nurul AmaliMohd Shamsudin said the Edu-cation Ministry's shift away fromcentralised assessments like UP-SR and PT3 had not significantlyaffected students'academic de-velopment. \nHe said this batch of studentshad shown greater confidence in \nexpressing opinions and partic-ipating in lessons, thanks to theministry's student development-oriented learning approach. \n\"The development-based ap-proach has helped prepare stu-dents to answer the examinationquestions and complete the re-quired coursework and practicalcomponents,\"he told the NewStraits Times yesterday. \nHe added that the practice ofconducting extra classes ahead ofSPM was not new,as teachers hadlong used them to familiarise stu-dents with different question for-mats and testing situations. \nMeanwhile,the Parent ActionGroup for Education (PAGE)has \nurged policymakers to assess thelong-term effects of the currentassessment structure. \nIts chairperson,Datin Noor Az-imah Abdul Rahim, said this wasto ensure that students continueto receive balanced, equitableand transparent forms of evalu-ation that prepare them for ex-aminations,and lifelong learningand future employment. \n“While the policy shift aimed topromote holistic learning and re-duce exam pressure, the absenceof these earlier 'checkpoints'hashad a mixed impact on students'learning and readiness. \n“Without the experience of sit-ting for major public exams, \nmany students may not have de-veloped the same level of exampreparedness, time managementor resilience under pressure asprevious cohorts.” \nShe said while continuous as-sessment was introduced to pro-vide a fairer and more comprehen-sive measure of students'progress, its implementation had not beenconsistent acrossschools. \nShe said PAGE observed thatparents and schools were increas-ingly turning to tuition, mock ex-ams and private assessments tomonitor academic progress andensure students were adequatelyprepared in the absence of na-tional benchmarkexams.","cbCaitvl4E1eLuFH","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaitvl4E1eLuFH","pdf",218861,"English","# Educators at odds over missed
