The programme consists of six evidence-based activity sessions led by practitioners and/or volunteers. This toolkit contains training and practical resources for practitioners and/or volunteers in Family Hubs, children’s centres, community centres, nurseries and schools running Early Words Together sessions with families. \nAims of the Early Words Together 3-4 toolkit \nThe Early Words Together toolkit provides you with all the information you need to successfully run the family sessions. It will: \n• Build your understanding of the communication, language and literacy development of three to fouryear-olds and the importance of the home learning environment (HLE) \n• Help you share key activities and information with parents \n• Provide parents with confidence and activity ideas to support their child’s development at home \nEarly Words Together 3-4 \n3 \nEarly years \nhome learning environment (HLE) \nThe term ‘home learning environment’(HLE) is used to describe any learning activity a child engages in at home. Research shows that there are seven key things parents can do with their child at home to help them develop their reading and communication skills –with benefits up to the age of 14 and beyond.1 \nThe purpose of the sessions you run with families is not to teach them to read and write or to solve communication problems. Your aim is to model behaviours and encourage parents to engage in positive conversations, and activities that develop children’s listening, understanding and speaking skills. \nSharing books and stories \nTelling stories and talking about pictures in books builds a child’s vocabulary and helps them develop a love of reading. \nSinging songs and rhymes \nRepeating songs and rhymes teaches children","cbCain533LUFwzBJ","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCain533LUFwzBJ","pdf",8375538,"English","# What is Early Words Together 3-4?\n# Aims of the Early Words Together 3-4 toolkit\n# Early years home learning environment (HLE)\n## The importance of early intervention\n# School readiness\n# Developing parents as partners\n# Supporting families who face particular challenges\n# Working with multilingual families\n# An overview of the six weeks\n# Session plans\n## Session 1: Supporting talk through imaginative play\n## Session 2: Singing songs and rhymes\n## Session 3: Sharing books and stories\n## Session 4: Mark making\n## Session 5: Getting out and about\n## Session 6: Visiting the library and celebration\n# Glossary\n# Appendix – Parent takeaway sheets","[{\"question\":\"Which activities are highlighted for building a home learning environment (HLE)?\",\"answer\":\"The toolkit emphasizes activities such as sharing books and stories, singing songs and rhymes, playing with letters and sounds, setting up play dates, getting out and about, painting and drawing, and using the library.\"}]","Early Words Together 3-4 Toolkit | PDF",1790580288,101]
