A large tortoiseshell cat appears as the master of the Full Moon Coffee Shop, calls the dreamer by name, and brings comfort. When the dreamer reveals grief over a writer’s final story and a longing for happier tales, the master offers the shop’s newest non-alcoholic drink and invites renewal before departure.","‘Welcome, Fujiko. Please take a seat,’ the cat says, its eyes half-closed in asmile. \nHow is a cat talking? And how does it know my name? \nThe situation confuses me, but I quickly realise what’s going on: Of course. I’m dreaming. \n[OceanofPDF.com](OceanofPDF.com) \n[OceanofPDF.com](OceanofPDF.com) \nContents \nIntroduction \nPrologue \nSatsuki Ayukawa and Affogato Memories \nTwilight Ramune and Fujiko Kawata’s Feelings \nWataru Ayuzawa’s Notebooks and Rainy-Day Pretzel Sticks \nA Vision of That Day \nEpilogue \nAfterword \nAbout the Author \n[OceanofPDF.com](OceanofPDF.com) \nThe Full Moon Coffee Shop has no fixed location. It might appear in the middle of a familiar shopping arcade, by the station at the end of the railway line, or on a quiet riverbank. \nAt the Full Moon Coffee Shop, we don’t take your order; instead we bring you desserts, mealsand drinks – selected just for you. \nI look up into the stunning star-filled sky and wonder if the master – that large tortoiseshell cat – is off somewhere smiling tonight … \n[OceanofPDF.com](OceanofPDF.com) \nIntroduction \nThe ocean is like a mirror, reflecting the twilight sky at the moment when the sun seems to melt into the water, and the boundary between sea and sky starts to blur. Looking at it gives me an odd sensation, as if I’m floating in space. \nThe universe uses the sky as a canvas, constantly creating new aweinspiring paintings. No two are alike and each one is incredible. Still, the masterpieces the universe shows us at sunset and sunrise are of a different calibre. The orange sky becomes tinged with pink, which slowly transforms into a pale purple. The full moon hangs in the sky to the east, casting its silvery-white light. \nThat light is the same colour as my hair. Sitting on the sandy beach, I touch my silken, silvery tresses, long enough to fall to my waist. \nI pick up the hardback book in my lap, and my heart aches when I think about this being his final story. \n‘Good evening,’ a voice says behind me, causing my shoulders to jerk slightly in surprise. \nIt wasn’t really that I had been caught off guard. It isn’t uncommon forme to fall into a reverie, only to be jolted out of it when someone speaks tome. \nI turn to face the source of the voice and see a large tortoiseshell cat. He is standing on his hind legs and wearing an apron, with his front paws clasped in front of him. Our eyes meet and he smiles, his large eyes crinkling into crescent moons. He gives me a slight bow. \nI find myself smiling at the sight of him. \n‘Hello, Master,’ I say and stand up, brushing the sand off me. \nThis large tortoiseshell cat manages the Full Moon Coffee Shop. He also reads the stars. \n‘It’s nice to see you after so long, Neptune,’ the master says. \nI blink in surprise.‘Has it been a long time?’ \n‘It has.’ The master nods with a slightly amused smile. \n‘Oh. Well, I guess it has been a long time, because it feels so odd to hear that name.’ I have less of a grasp on the concept of time than others do. \n‘Ah yes, you don’t like being called by your name.’ \nI shake my head. ‘Names have no meaning. If you want to get my attention, just think of me. That should be enough.’ \n‘But there are many objects and concepts that may become undefined if they don’t have names.’ \nHe’s right about that. But still … \n‘Nothing in existence is defined,’ I say as I look back towards the blurred boundary between sea and sky. \n‘By the way, Nep—’ The master stops himself out of consideration for my feelings. Once he’s collected his thoughts, his eyes move to the book I’m holding and he asks,‘What are you reading?’ \nMy heart aches as I give a small nod. ‘This is his home town, and this book is his last story.’ I sigh and look down at the cover. It’s all so incredibly unfortunate. \n‘His last?’ the master asks. \n‘He’s given up on life.’ \n‘Ah …’ the master says quietly, then he looks at me with surprise. ‘I didn’t expect something like that to cause you pain.
