One intimate study of place and an acknowledgement of our ecological entanglements is Rum Jungle landscape , by Rod Moss (fig. 8) . In other instances, drawing enables detailed observations and contextual analysis of tracking and tracing landscapes, journeying and traversing, observing botanical textures and forms, and capturing conditions of light, heat, and space. A stippled ink drawing by Jane Mervin, Tjulpu tjulpu , reinforces our connection and shared existence with other living beings – in this instance a pair of goggle-eyed, perching owls (fig. 9) . Lily pods , drawn by Phillip Merrdi Wilson of Naiuyu, captures the growth of red lotus lily pods (Nelumbo nucifera) -an abundant food source that has sustained his Ngan’gi ancestors on their wetland Country \nin the Daly Region for millennia (fig. 2) . \nAs creative methods change, expand and increase, drawing remains an elemental component of visual art practice: a means by which to slow down, observe the world and draw into being that which we see, sense and experience. The immediacy of hand-made mark-making has been a form of human expression since time immemorial. DRAWN from the CDU Art Collection celebrates those artists whose drawings remain in our care at CDU, as a source of inspiration for us to admire and appreciate. \n– Dr Joanna Barrkman and Sarah Pirrie \nFigure 9: Jane Mervin (b. 1960-), Tjulpu tjulpu , 2012, ink on paper, 14 x 19 cm, Charles Darwin University Art Collection; CDU2563 . © Jane Mervin and Copyright Agency, reproduced with permission. \nArtists featured in DRAWN from the CDU Art Collection include: John Beard, Peter Booth, Jon Cattapan, Douglas Chambers, Janenne Eaton, Jacki Fleet, Richard Goodwin and Bärbel Rothhaar, Chris Healey, Winsome Jobling, Jumaadi, Tjilpi Kunmanara Kankapankatja, Tim Maguire, Mandy Martin, Terry Matassoni, Jane Mervin, Rod Moss, Estelle Munkanome, Michael Muruste, Bernard Ollis, Mike Parr, I Wayan Pendet, I Wayan Rajin, Christian Clare Robertson, Karen Rogers, I Gusti Putu Sana, Neridah Stockley, Tony Tuckson, Anna Reynolds, Phillip Merrdi Wilson and Alison Worsnop. \nDRAWN from the CDU Art Collection \nExhibition dates: 30 September 2021 – 26 February 2022 \nExhibition curators: \nDr Joanna Barrkman and Sarah Pirrie Collection management: Eileen Lim \nCuratorial intern: Kezia Michela Dilettoso \nWorkshop program co-ordination: Winsome Jobling \nGraphic design: Black Dog Graphics and Uniprint Display installation and lighting: Bamboo Electrical Video recording: A drawing by Anna Reynolds filmed by Leeanne Mahaffey and Joanna Barrkman Printing: Uniprint \nCDU Art Collection and Art Gallery staff: Dr Joanna Barrkman, Curator, \nCDU Art Collection and art Gallery \nEileen Lim, Exhibitions and Collection Officer \nT: 08 8946 7430 / 8946 6621 \nE: [artgallery@cdu.edu.au](artgallery@cdu.edu.au) \n[cdu.edu.au/artcollection-gallery](cdu.edu.au/artcollection-gallery) \nCDU Art Collection and Art Gallery, Chancellery (Building Orange 12.1.02), Casuarina campus, CDU \nOpening hours: Wed – Fri: 10am – 4pm and \nSat: 10am – 2pm \n70156 Un i print 09.21 \nJacki Fleet (b. 1961-), Fire flies , 1998, charcoal and gouache on Arches® paper, 58 x 77 cm, Charles Darwin University Art Collection; CDU 1689. © Jacki Fleet, reproduced with permission. \nSketches, drawings, illustrations and works-on-paper from 1976 to 2021 \n30 September 2021–26 February 2022 \nFigure 1: Peter Booth (b. 1951-), untitled, 1982, mixed media drawing on paper, 25.5 x 17.5 cm, Charles Darwin University Art Collection; CDU35 .© Peter Booth and Copyright Agency, reproduced with permission. \nFigure 2: Phillip Merrdi Wilson (b. 1982-","cbCaibczWL22Ttpd","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaibczWL22Ttpd","pdf",3357159,"English","# DRAWN from the CDU Art Collection\n## Drawing as observation and appreciation\n## Featured artists and artworks\n## Exhibition information\n## Collection history","[{\"question\":\"How does the exhibition explain the purpose of drawing in relation to nature?\",\"answer\":\"It shows drawing as a way to slow down, observe the world, and appreciate natural environments, including ecological connections and place-based study.\"},{\"question\":\"What time span and types of artworks does DRAWN include?\",\"answer\":\"The exhibition includes sketches, drawings, illustrations, and works-on-paper created between 1976 and 2021, executed with many different media such as pencil, ink, charcoal, and pastel.\"},{\"question\":\"Who curated the exhibition and what collection does it draw from?\",\"answer\":\"The exhibition curators are Dr Joanna Barrkman and Sarah Pirrie, and it draws from the Charles Darwin University (CDU) Art Collection.\"}]","DRAWN from the CDU Art Collection - Exhibition brochure | PDF",1789454108]
