This list does not include every provision listed in the SAR manual; however, it does list the most prevalent items that appear on most TAA applications. It’s not enough to design accordingly, the application must clearly demonstrate compliance on the drawings by providing descriptive annotations, dashed lines for outline of clear floor spaces on plans, including dimensioning or by reference to correct standard diagrams that can be found within the drawing set. Even if the layout complies, comments are sure to be generated if that compliance is not clearly demonstrated. It is imperative for the AOR to view the ~37 minute long training video in order to best understand the Supplemental Accessibility Standards. In most cases, your project shall be classified as either new or existing construction based on SAR \n2.1 Applicability or as determined by the PANYNJ SAR Committee. When the project is classified as new, do not provide diagrams for both new and existing buildings. Only diagrams for NEW buildings should be shown. \n􀂾 Note: Just because your building may be existing does not mean the existing building requirements automatically apply. If you are completely demolishing the space and providing an entirely new layout, then the NEW building requirements shall apply. Per SAR 2 .1.3, \"when existing buildings and facilities are altered, the altered portions shall comply with these supplemental requirements (not just the building code), unless compliance is technically infeasible. \"Technically infeasible\"shall mean: something that has little likelihood of being accomplished because existing structural conditions would require removing or altering a load-bearing member that is an essential part of the structural frame; or because other existing physical or site constraints prohibit modification or addition of elements, spaces, or features that are in full and strict compliance with the minimum requirement.\" \n􀂾 Additionally, eliminate any standard accessibility diagrams that are not relevant to the specific projects scope of work to avoid questions and ensure all diagrams shown on your drawings comply with all SAR requirements. Listed below are a few diagrams that are repeatedly drawn incorrectly. \n􀁸 Rear wall grab bar diagram - The rear wall grab bar shall NOT be dimensioned from the centerline of toilet but from the FACE of the adjacent wall in accordance with Figure 604.5.2. \n􀁸 Lavatory diagrams-Ensure to demonstrate compliance with 17\" minimum depth and 27\" minimum height required for knee and toe clearances. \nPage | 1 As of: March 28, 2025 \n􀁸 Recessed door diagrams-The maximum 8\" recessed depth shall be taken to the face of DOOR and NOT to the face of wall or face of door frame. \n􀀀 Indicate clear floor spaces (SAR 2 .2.3) and turning spaces (SAR 2 .2.2) at all locations where required by the ADA Section 304 Turning Spaces and Section 305 Clear Floor Spaces. \n􀂾 Clear floor spaces shall only be shown positioned for a forward approach when the required knee and toe clearances are provided. If not, show the clear floor space positioned for a parallel approach (if allowable at the particular element, li","cbCaimNeQwNQaGhC","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaimNeQwNQaGhC","pdf",997923,"English","# DRAWING SUBMISSION CHECKLIST\n## Applicability and standards\n## Accessibility diagrams and updates\n## Clear floor spaces and turning spaces\n## Common diagraming requirements and examples\n## Accessible routes","[{\"question\":\"What is the purpose of the drawing submission checklist in the SAR review process?\",\"answer\":\"It lists the most prevalent items that should be included on architectural drawings so the application reviewed for SAR compliance clearly demonstrates adherence through plan annotations, dashed outlines, and correct dimensioning or diagram references.\"},{\"question\":\"How should diagrams be handled when the project is classified as new versus existing?\",\"answer\":\"Determine the project classification per the SAR applicability rules.
