At level 1, learners would need tobe able to do this for cubiods. \n• Learners also need to be aware of both accuracy and scale in their drawings. If the question asks for accuracy, then the learners will need to draw it life size. This might mean using more than one square on their grid. \n• If the question uses scale, the learners should work out the length of the edges in advance. \n• Learners should always use a ruler. \nWhat the Pearson says \n• Centres should ensure learners practise scale drawings using squared paper with a variety of different sized squares, not just 1cm square paper. \n• They need to ensure that learners know what a net is, possibly by opening out a variety of boxes into a flat shape so that the net is easily seen. \nHandout 1 \nNets ofa cube \nIn total there are 11 different ways of drawing a net of a cube, how many can you draw? \nTry cutting out the shapes and seeing if you can create a cube to check if you are correct. \nHandout 2 \nIn the assessment you might be asked to draw a net just like you did in handout 1. However, you need to be able to understand the question and be aware of the scale you are using too. \nLet’s have a look at a question: \nTina collects rare coins. \nTina wants to design a closing silver box for her coin. She wants the box to be in the shape of a cuboid with: \nsquare base of side length 5 cm \nheight of 1.5 cm. \nTina needs to draw an accurate net of the box for a jeweller. Draw an accurate net of the box for Tina. \nThe question asks for accuracy: the sides must measure the same in your drawing as in real life. \nNow use the grid below to draw the net from the question above: (3 marks) \nHandout 1 answers \nThese are the 11 possible nets: \nHandout 2 answers \nMark Scheme","cbCaikZWt2UFurhq","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaikZWt2UFurhq","pdf",451671,"English","# Drawing nets of 3D objects\n## Teaching guidance\n## Handout 1: Nets of a cube\n## Handout 2: Scale and accuracy assessment\n## Answers and mark scheme","[{\"question\":\"What is a net in the context of 3D geometry?\",\"answer\":\"A net is a 2D shape that can be folded to create a 3D object, such as a cuboid or cube.\"},{\"question\":\"Why is accuracy important when drawing a net for an assessment?\",\"answer\":\"When a question asks for accuracy, it requires that the sides drawn on paper measure exactly the same as the dimensions in real life.\"},{\"question\":\"How should learners approach questions involving scale?\",\"answer\":\"Learners should calculate the actual length of the edges in advance and use a ruler to draw these lengths precisely on the provided grid.\"}]","Drawing Nets of 3D Objects - Specification and Sample Assessments - Maths | PDF",15]
