The document covers key areas such as schematic and layout best practices, component selection and verification, and signal integrity on both the MDI and MAC interfaces. By combining practical measurements, test mode usage, and several diagnostic techniques, the guide helps engineers gain a deeper understanding of the DP83TD510E and accelerates root cause analysis. | |
| Table of Contents
1 Introduction.............................................................................................................................................................................2
2 Troubleshooting the Application...........................................................................................................................................3
2.1 Schematic and Layout Checklist........................................................................................................................................ 3
2.2 Component Checklist......................................................................................................................................................... 3
2.3 Device Health Checks........................................................................................................................................................ 3
2.4 Read and Check Register Values...................................................................................................................................... 5
2.5 Verifying Strap Configuration............................................................................................................................................. 5
2.6 Loopbacks.......................................................................................................................................................................... 6
2.7 MDI Health Checks............................................................................................................................................................ 7
2.8 MII Health Checks............................................................................................................................................................ 10
3 Summary............................................................................................................................................................................... 14
4 References............................................................................................................................................................................ 15
Trademarks
All trademarks are the property of their respective owners. | |

SNLA452 – AUGUST 2025 DP83TD510E Troubleshooting Guide 1
Submit Document Feedback
Copyright © 2025 Texas Instruments Incorporated
1 Introduction
DP83TD510E is a physical-layer transceiver compliant to IEEE 802.3cg 10Base-T1L specification. The PHY uses low noise coupled signal processing receiver architecture to offer longer cable reach along with ultra-low power consumption. The device supports both 2.4V p2p and 1V p2p voltage modes as defined by IEEE 802.3cg 10Base-T1L specifications. DP83TD510E supports direct connection to several Media Access Controller (MAC) interfaces (MII, RMII, RGMII, and low power RMII) . The device also supports back-to-back RMII mode and RGMII in non-managed mode to provide range extension and repeater functionality.
Figure 1-1 shows a high-level overview of a typical media conversion application (SPE ↔ RJ-45) with DP83TD510E:
Data/Power Coupling / De-Coupling

| DP83TD510E EVM | |
| --- | --- |
| | |

Configuration Circuit Blocks
USB
Figure 1","cbCaikuTX0eM2aZF","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaikuTX0eM2aZF","pdf",854471,16,"English","# 1 Introduction
# 2 Troubleshooting the Application
## 2.1 Schematic and Layout Checklist
## 2.2 Component Checklist
## 2.3 Device Health Checks
## 2.4 Read and Check Register Values
## 2.5 Verifying Strap Configuration
## 2.6 Loopbacks
## 2.7 MDI Health Checks
## 2.8 MII Health Checks
# 3 Summary
# 4 References","[{"question":"What does the DP83TD510E support in terms of IEEE 802.3cg 10Base-T1L operation?","answer":"DP83TD510E is a physical-layer transceiver compliant with IEEE 802.3cg 10Base-T1L and supports both 2.4V p2p and 1V p2p voltage modes as defined by that specification."},{"question":"Which debug tools and scripts are referenced for troubleshooting?","answer":"The guide states that debug scripts can be used with the tool USB-2-MDIO to reprogram DP83TD510E into different modes, and a collection of mentioned scripts is available on the product page."},{"question":"When can the guide’s health-check sections be skipped?","answer":"It can skip Device Health Checks when the device links up (register 0x0010) with a link partner or shows NLP when the Ethernet cable is unconnected.
