Long time ago there was an old farmer who needed someone to help him on his farm. A young man offered to help him. The farmer promised to reward him handsomely.  \n\"The young man worked diligently through the planting season. He helped with the weeding and harvesting. When they finally stored the yield,the farmer said, 'Thankyou for your help. Here is your reward. This gosling will make you rich. '  \nThe young man could not beleive it. How can he do this to me?  \nHow can a gosling make me rich? the young man wondered. He has short-changed me. He could not even me a goose! Dejected,the young man tool the gosling and left.  \n\"When got home,he gave the gosling to his wife who left it in the backyard.  \nThey both did not care for it. The gosling foraged on grass and worms.Soon,it grew into a goose. One day, the woman heard a cackling and when she went close,she sawa golden egg. She took it to her husband who immediately took ot to the goldsmith.  \nThe goldsmith said it was precious gold. The young man sold the gold and went back with a wad of notes. He built a nice house. Every day, the goose laid a golden egg.  \n\"One day,an idea struck the man. Why should I wait for an egg a day?  \nThe goose must have many eggs in its belly. If I kill it, I'll get get all the eggs at once! He consulted his wife who found the thought sensible. They seized the goose,removed it's feathers and cut open its belly!  \nThe bird died but, alas, there was not even one egg in its belly. They all cried out aloud, 'we killed the goose that lays golden eggs. W e were greedy. Now we lost everything. '  \n\" You see, it is the same thing with people who cut trees for charcoal. They want money immediately but they are destroying our environment. Eventually, we shall lose everything,\" Grandfather concluded .  \n1.
