Vance had a darker coloring, a goatee beard, and slicked-back black hair that was starting to gray, and Danny had wondered if he might have some Native American blood. Both men loved tattoos and were covered in them. They had mentioned working in the pig processing plant on the edge of town, the big local employer. That place had given Danny nightmares as a child when visiting his aunt, and even now, he dreaded to think what it was like inside.  \nCaroline's house, dating from the 1890s, boasted a fine wrap-around porch.
