Ones that are important to understand before attempting to set an adventure or campaign within this domain. \nSouragne has a troubled past—by which I do not mean “in-universe,” but in the real world. It is set in an equivalent to the American south, during a time where slavery, racism, and superstition were very real. This is reflected in the domain, and our sensibilities may not want to accept the norms of that time. Some of us will even have revisionist tendencies in relation to this story. \nThat is not the approach I intend to take. The very existence of the domain is based on these issues, so they cannot be ignored. I will try to treat these subjects with respect, but I cannot promise that my take on this is for everyone. \nSo to get afew things out of the way straight from the get-go: \nSlavery \nSlavery in Souragne is not based on race. The focus is on social strata, with the 10% being the “haves”(i.e. plantation owners, real estate moguls, even people with small shops) and the “have-nots”(serfs and slaves, whether de facto or by law). This social divide is essential to understanding Souragne. The social elite control everything, while the lower class has no rights by comparison. Again, it is important to state that this is not based on race, as both lower and upper classes have humans of all races in them, and these people are very open to non-humans, a rarity in the Domains of Dread. (For those wondering, the setting comes from AD&D with the book Realms of Dread) \nThe original source material on Souragne (for those wondering, the setting comes from AD&D with the book Realms of Dread) always referred to the lowest class as being serfs, not slaves, but that feels like a cop-out, so within the pages of this book you will find that there are both serfs and slaves. \nVoodoo \nThe second thing to tackle is Voodoo. The voodoo of our world is a recognized \nSouragne \n3 \nreligion in many countries, though it operates under many names, like Voodoo, Vodun, Vodou and more. The Voodoo of Souragne comes from historic representations of Louisiana Voodoo and, within D&D, it’s had a bit of a troubled history. Portrayals of voodoo show it as evil witchcraft and it is often belittled as nothing more than superstition. The original Souragne of AD&D history even had an NPC called Chicke","cbCairXsQvIM47Dm","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCairXsQvIM47Dm","pdf",2126310,"English","# Note from the Author\n## Adventure Hooks\n## Landscape, Flora and Fauna\n## The Souragnien Character\n## History\n## The Souragnien Campaign\n## Populace\n## Final Thoughts\n## The Realm\n## Appendix: Creatures of Souragne\n## Sites of Interest","[{\"question\":\"What historical themes does the author say Souragne is based on?\",\"answer\":\"The author describes Souragne as reflecting an American-south equivalent in a time when slavery, racism, and superstition were very real.
