The poems present the state’s history and geography through metrical treatment, with a dominant seasonal mood as passing months are rendered into colorful stanzas. As the seasons progress, the poet adds pungent observations and moments of personal release, maintaining a lyric quality that ranges from serious to humorous and occasionally cynical, yet remains delicate and graceful. The volume includes biographical background and publication details, including a 1952 copyright
