Methods: a retrospective single-center study enrolled 100 patients (Jan 2019–Dec 2020) randomized by resectoscope size (22F, n=40; 26F, n=60) and assessed TUL/US at 4, 12, and 24 weeks. [Email: m.arifibis@hotmail.com](Email: m.arifibis@hotmail.com)  \nAbstract  \nObjective: To investigate the effect of the use of a small-size resectoscope for enucleation during holmium laser enucleation of the prostate (HoLEP) on the prevention of transient urinary leakage (TUL) and urethral stricture (US) .  \nMethods: One hundred patients were included in a retrospective single-center study from January 2019 to December 2020 . The patients were divided into two groups according to the resectoscope size which was used for enucleation (22F in group A [n = 40] and 26F in group B [n = 60]) . Patients were evaluated at 4, 12, and 24 weeks postoperatively for TUL and US. Univariate and multivariate regression analyses were implemented to assess the variables which are associated with TUL at 4 weeks.  \nResults: Baseline characteristics and perioperative data were observed to be well balanced between groups. A statistically significant higher occurrence of TUL was detected at 4 weeks in group B compared to group A (P = .018) . Higher improvement in International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS) and quality of life (QoL) was observed in group A at 4 and 12 weeks postoperatively. On univariate analysis, resectoscope size, specimen weight, and body mass index were significant predictive factors for TUL at 4 weeks. Multivariate analysis illustrated that the resectoscope size was independently associated with TUL at 4 weeks after HoLEP (odds ratio = 3. 1 [1 .02- 9.38]) . One patient in group A (2 . 5%) and two patients in group B (5%) demonstrated US (P = . 648) .  \nConclusion: Enucleation with a 22F resectoscope provides better QoL and IPSS by reducing TUL rates in the early postoperative period.  \nKEYWOR DS  \nholmium laser enucleation of the prostate, resectoscope size, transient urinary leakage, urethral stricture  \n1 | INTRODUCTION  \nBenign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is one of the most common urologic diseases observed in elderly men. Current data clearly indicate that holmium laser enucleation of the prostate (HoLEP) can provide more excellent functional outcomes, lower complication rates, and longer-term  \ndurability compared with transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) and open simple prostatectomy for surgical management of patients with symptomatic BPH.1,2 However, it is known that the rate of transient urinary leakage (TUL) after HoLEP is slightly higher than that after TURP.3 Like other transurethral procedures, HoLEP also has a risk of urethral stricture (US) and bladder neck contracture (BNC) .  \n86  \n© 2021 John Wiley & Sons Australia, Ltd  \n[wileyonlinelibrary.com/journal/luts](wileyonlinelibrary.com/journal/luts)  \nLower Urinary Tract Symptoms. 2022;14:86–91.  \nTUL is one of the common early complications after endoscopic procedures for BPH. Reported postoperative incontinence rates at less than 3 months range from 28 . 5% to 44%,3,4 with rates improving spontaneously within 3 months in 75% to 90% of patients.4,5 Therefore, TUL should be evaluated within 3 months after surgery. Studies have reported that many variables such as surgeon experience, diabetes mellitus, body mass index (BMI), prostate volume, operation time, and membranous urethra length are risk factors for TUL.6,7 However, during the surgery, the external urethral sphincter (EUS) can be damaged by manipulation o","cbCaik61YaV00P0u","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaik61YaV00P0u","pdf",468183,1,6,"English","en",105,"# Abstract\n## Objective\n## Methods\n## Results\n## Conclusion\n# Introduction\n## Background on HoLEP and complications\n# Materials and Methods\n## Study design and participants","[{\"question\":\"What is the main objective of the study?\",\"answer\":\"To determine whether using a small-size resectoscope during enucleation in HoLEP can prevent transient urinary leakage and urethral stricture in the early postoperative period.\"},{\"question\":\"How were patients grouped in the study?\",\"answer\":\"Patients were split into two groups based on resectoscope size used for enucleation: 22F (group A, n=40) and 26F (group B, n=60).\"},{\"question\":\"What were the key findings regarding transient urinary leakage and urethral stricture?\",\"answer\":\"Transient urinary leakage at 4 weeks occurred more often in the 26F group than in the 22F group, and multivariate analysis showed resectoscope size independently predicted TUL at 4 weeks;
