But he didn’t understand why it was important to study so many subjects.  \n“Why do I need to know about so many different things?” Vin asked his teacher.“How will I use it all when I grow up?”  \n“No matter what you choose to be when you grow up,” his teacher said, “education will help you succeed!”  \nSo Vin listened in class and studied at home.  \nBut he still didn’t understand why it was so important.  \nOne day, volunteer nurses visited the school to give students vaccinations and share advice on being healthy. This was the first time Vin had met a real nurse . He was amazed by how much they knew.  \nThe next day, Vin’s best friend Elita got into an accident on the street. Vin found an adult to call an ambulance. Vin was afraid but he wanted to help, so he waited with Elita until the ambulance arrived.  \nVin rode with Elita to the hospital. When they arrived, Vin watched as doctors and nurses rushed to help her. They seemed to know exactly what to do.  \nVin waited in a hallway, feeling very scared and sad. He wished there was more that he could do for Elita.
