I'm Bob [Robert] Malloy, the manager of the Library and Publishing unit in the Information and Technology Solutions Vice Presidency of the World Bank Group.  \nIn this series, we will explore pivotal moments in development history, and hear the perspectives of staff. A disclaimer, though, that these conversations do not reflect the positions or views of the World Bank Group.  \nNow on to the episode!  \nWith us today is Jeanette Murray, a Knowledge and Learning professional who began her journey with the World Bank in 2001. Early in her career, she designed a series of consultations on the implementation of antiretroviral drugs, drug treatments, in Africa. Then in 2002, Jeanette took on the role of Learning Officer, where she was the task lead for the original Fundamentals of Bank Operations [FBO] course. Jeanette developed knowledge and learning products and contributed to the Bank's learning strategy.  \nIn 2009, she started working with the Operations Policy and Country Services Vice Presidency, OPCS, where she promoted the adoption of new technologies and platforms for learning and knowledge sharing. In 2015, Jeanette led the strategy, design, and development of systems, learning products, and programs for the climate change group.  \nToday, we will talk to Jeanette about her experience working with the Bank and what lessons she has learned along the way. Hello Jeanette, thank you for joining us. It's great to have you.  \nSo, you have just wrapped up your time working at the World Bank. And so, I want to begin by asking you what led you into the knowledge and learning field at the Bank.  \nJEANETTE: I just wanted to, before we start, say thank you for the invitation to do this, and what a great series it is in terms of knowledge sharing. So, kudos to the team.  \nI arrived in Washington DC after having worked as a professor in the School of Economic and Financial Studies at Macquarie University in Sydney, and also, I taught at the International Study Centre. Prior to that I was a university career counselor. My teaching led me to develop a strong interest in what were scarce skills in Internet technology. And so, for example, I was teaching HTML courses to members of the Australian Computer Society in 1994. These experiences led me to working on solving business problems with various organizations and to teaching others to incorporate technology to achieve this.  \nI arrived in DC in 2001. We were at a point where antiretroviral drugs were available in developed countries, but inaccessible in developing countries. And since that's where so many cases of HIV AIDS were occurring, it was important to build the capacity of the health systems, to start using these drugs  \nfor patients. It was a privilege at the time to work with the Bank's health unit staff. To work with Johns Hopkins, Merck, and national teams from Ghana, Uganda, and Tanzania, and to build the capacity of these country health systems to deliver these treatments.
