The study identifies relevant female-oriented publications, compares category systems, and uses Munsell color notations to translate visual and written recommendations attributed to each category. It evaluates publications by category counts, recommendation numbers, hue value and chroma ranges, and visual-versus-written agreement.","# AN ABSTRACT 0F THE THESIS 0F\n\nEdith E.Collin for the degree of Master of Science in Clothing,Textiles and Related Arts presented on April 7,1986. \n# Title:Development of a Methodology for Analyzing the Color Contentof a Selected Group of Printed Color Analysis Systems\n\nRedacted for Privacy \nAbstract approved: Ardis Koester \nThe purpose of this study was to develop a methodologyto compare the color choice recommendations for each personalcolor analysis category identified by the authors of selectedpublications. The procedure used included:(1)identificationof publications with color analysis systems directed toward femaleclientele;(2)comparison of number and names of categories used; \n(3)identification,by use of Munsell color notations, the visualand written color recommendations ascribed to each category;and \n(4)comparison of the publications on the basis of:(a)number andnames of categories;(b)number of color recommendations in eachcategory;(c)range of hue value and chroma presented;(d)comparisonof visual and written color recommendations by category and author. \nWith the exception of comparison of publications on the basis ofwritten color recommendations, all components of the methodology weresuccessfu1.Comparison of the publications used in development of themethodology revealed that: \n1.The majority of authors use the seasonal category system. \n2.The number of color recommendations per category was quiteconsistent within a publication but varied widely among authors. \n3.There were few similarities in color recommendations evenamong authors using the same name categories. \n4.There was poor agreement between written and visual colorrecommendations within all color categories. \n.5.There was no discernable theoretical basis for the colorrecommendations presented by any author included in this study. \nC Copyright by Edith E.Collin \nApril 7,1986 \nA11 Rights Reserved \n## Development of a Methodology for Analyzing the Color Contentof a Selected
