The Demirjian tooth development stages system was used to assess all the permanent teeth on the left side of the mandible. \nResults: The estimated ages of both sexes tended to be higher than their chronological age, meaning that they matured early. The mean maturation score of the Emirati population was not statistically significantly different from that of the French-Canadian children. Emirati children’s DA was higher compared to the Canadian standards. The mean difference between chronological age and dental age (DA–CA) was 1.21 and 0.79 years in girls and boys, respectively (p \u003C 0.001). Using a normalization methodology, self-weighted scores were developed for Emirati girls and boys. Conclusion: The results demonstrated that the Demirjian method was suitable for estimating the dental age in a group of Emirati children. \nKeywords: Children, Demirjian’s method, Dental age estimation, Panoramic radiographs. \nInternational Journal of Clinical Pediatric Dentistry (2025): 10.5005/jp-journals-10005-3294 \nIntroductIon \nAge is a period of human life that is measured by the chronological passing of days, weeks, months, and years from birth. Biological age refers to how old a person seems; accordingly, biological age assessment can be achieved by various techniques, including physical examination, cervical vertebral maturation,1 handwrist radiographs, dental examination, and also by using dental panoramic tomography (DPT) images.2 In forensic medicine, age estimation is no longer only beneficial in the identification of deceased victims or human remains but additionally in age estimation of living individuals, which would possibly be required in such cases where chronological age plays a necessary role, for example, criminal liability, immigration, school attendance, and social benefits.3 In dental and medical practice, age estimation is regarded to be of outstanding importance.4, 5 For example, pediatric dentists and orthodontists must be capable of understanding a child’s growth and developmental status represented by both the chronological and dental age, as it is important to lead to a more accurate diagnosis and treatment planning.6 Dental age assessment is commonly based on observing the stage of tooth eruption and the degree of mineralization of the developing tooth buds’ enamel from radiographs.7 The process of maturation is much more uniform, progressive, sequenced, and continuous compared to tooth eruption, and is much less affected by endocrine disease, dietary deficiency conditions, and environmental changes.8 These factors influence tooth development and may show differences in chronological age compared to dental age.3 For \n1–4,6Department of Pediatric Dentistry, Mohammed Bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences, Dubai, United Arab Emirates \n5Department of Statistics, Mohammed Bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences, Dubai, United Arab Emirates Corresponding Author: Iyad Hussein, Department of Pediatric Dentistry, Mohammed Bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences, Dubai, United Arab Emirates, Phone: +971 564715509, e-mail: [iyad.hussein@dubaih","cbCaieQkglc4RxpY","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaieQkglc4RxpY","pdf",1196804,14,"English","# Abstract\n## Background\n## Aim\n## Materials and methods\n## Results\n## Conclusion\n# Introduction\n## Chronological vs biological age\n## Dental age assessment methods\n## Relevance in clinical and forensic settings\n# Materials & methods","[{\"question\":\"What is the purpose of creating a dental reference data set in this study?\",\"answer\":\"To establish a dental reference data set (DRDS) for Emirati children aged 5 to 15 years for dental age estimation.\"},{\"question\":\"How were dental age assessments performed?\",\"answer\":\"Dental panoramic tomography images were analyzed using the Demirjian tooth development stages system, assessing permanent teeth on the left side of the mandible.\"},{\"question\":\"What were the main findings about the relationship between dental age and chronological age?\",\"answer\":\"Estimated dental ages tended to be higher than chronological ages, with mean DA–CA differences of 1.21 years for girls and 0.79 years for boys (p \\u003c 0.001).\"},{\"question\":\"Was the Demirjian method suitable for this population?\",\"answer\":\"Yes.
