They deepen their project work by learning and practicing with the extended requirements of product development. The course focuses on developing user-centered aspects to meet user requirements and bring the design to production maturity. Students learn in detail the difference between 'design development' and 'product development' and how to justify the neccesity of each. The course shows students the major difference in complexity between design methodology at BA level and MA level. In this module, students also learn advanced methods of cyclical, iterative design processes in which they create and test user-orientated prototypes on the basis of user research and usability tests. \nTeaching and learning outcomes \n Product adaption \n Development of product details \n Advanced usability-oriented prototyping \n Design and product validation \n User tests, surveys and usability validation \n Cyclical, iterative design process (e.g. Scrum, ISO 9241, etc. ) \nWorkload, teaching and learning methods \nOverall workload \nThe total workload for the module is 300 hours (see also \"ECTS credit points and grading\") . \nTeaching and learning methods Lecturer based learning \n\n| Workload hours | Type of teaching | Media implementation | Concretization |\n| --- | --- | --- | --- |\n| 4 | Individual coaching | | - |\n\nLecturer independent learning \n\n| Workload hours | Type of teaching | Media implementation | Concretization |\n| --- | --- | --- | --- |\n| 50 | Preparation/follow-up for course work | | - |\n| 136 | Work in small groups | | - |\n| 110 | Other | | - |\n\nFurther explanations \n- \nRequirements for the award of ECTS credit points \nGraded examination \n Project Report, written \nUngraded exam \n Presentation \nRemark on the assessment methods \n- \nExam duration and scope \nStudents will present their design projects (10-15 min. ) and submitt a writen project report (20-30 pages) . \nRequirements for participation \nRecommended prior knowledge \n Students should have attended the project course \"design research and ideation\" or aquivelent at their home unniversity. \n Students should have a previously developed design idea capable of further development. \nCompetency-based learning outcomes \nKnowledge Broadening \n Students can identify and differentiate between methods of design development focused on usercentered requirements. \nStudents are able to identify and present the ergonomic requirements of users. \nStudents know the various purposes which prototypes can be used for. \nKnowledge deepening \n Students are able to select and apply appropriate methods for user-centered validation within the product development phase. \n Students can identify and explain the different uses of prototypes in the developmental context and can identify the appropriate prototype for use for different contexts. \nKnowledge Understanding \n Students can apply research methods to identify usability problems and find solutions to these. \n Students are capable of critically analyzing and reflecting on the limits of existing methods and tools of usability research and user-centered design development. \nApplication and Transfer \n Students are able to incorporate the ergonomic requirements of users into their product designs. \n Students can develop new methods for identifying user requirements in cases where existing methods may not fit.
