Students research what tiny homes are, explore concepts such as carbon footprint, and brainstorm needed items and personal priorities. Learners measure real furniture with the Measure app, choose a drawing scale, and construct a blueprint using grids, drawing guides, and QuickShape to create straight lines. Feel free to take them further \nand make them your own. \nDesign a Tiny Home \nStudents design their own tiny home and use geometry skills to draw a floor plan to scale. \nAll you need is an iPad and the following apps: \nProcreate \nSafari \nMeasurement \nReality Composer \nEducational Value \nStudents use measurement and geometric principles to draw to scale and calculate the area of their design. \nStudents learn basic principles of housing design. \nStudents apply the design process to real-world applications of mathematical concepts. \nIn this guide ~~ ~~12~~ ~~WhBraiatnsis~~ ~~a~~ ~~titormny~~ ~~home?~~ ~~ \n3 Blueprint \n4 Measure it up \n5 Drawing to scale \n8 Adding personality \n9 Calculate your footprint \n10 Take it further \nWhat is a tiny home? 1. \nResearch \nTiny homes are houses that are generally less than 400 square feet and designed to have a low impact on the environment. Spend some time researching different examples of the design of tiny homes. \nUse the following questions to guide your research: \nWhy do some people choose to live in tiny homes? \nWhat does it mean to have a \n'carbon footprint'? \nWhat are some examples of small spaces that have multiple uses? \nSafari \nBrainstorm 2. \nWhat do you need? \nMake a list of the things that you need to include in your home. This will include the bare necessities, as well as a few of your favourite belongings that you simply can't live without. \nCONSIDER... \nWhat size bed will you sleep on? \nHow will you stay warm? \nOf all your personal belongings, what are the \n5 things that have the most meaning to you? \nBlueprint 3. \nVisualize your home \nOn a new canvas, set the background to blue and use a white brush to experiment with a few different designs for your home. \nCONSIDER: \nThink about how you would like to move through the space and how you can fit in all the belongings you brainstormed. \nIs there anything that you'll need to sacrifice to keep the house under 400 square feet? \nMeasure it up 4. \nSize of furniture \nUse the Measure app to measure the size of the furniture in your current house. This will help you work out how much room to allow for furniture in your design. \nTap the Measure app to open it. \nMove your iPad around so that the central dot is over the starting point of your measurement. Tap the Add (+) button. \nMove your device so the centre dot is over the end point of your measurement. Again, tap the Add (+) button. \nOnce you've measured your object, make note of its dimensions. \nDrawing to scale 5. \nGrid paper \nCreate a new A4 canvas \nTap the wrench icon to open the Actions menu. \nTap Canvas, and toggle on Drawing Guide. \nEDIT YOUR DRAWING GUIDES \nTo edit the size or color of your Drawing Guides, tap Edit Drawing Guide in the Actions menu. \nDRAWING STRAIGHT LINES \nUse QuickShape to help draw perfectly straight lines. Hold for a second once you've drawn a line and it will snap perfectly straight. \n6. \nSet a scale \nDecide upon a scale for your drawing. What does one square on your grid represent as a real distance? \nWrite this on your canvas somewhereas a reminder. \nA bird's eye view \nNow draw your furniture and belongings to scale in top view, using the measurements you took earlier as a guide. \nTap the + in the Layers Panel to create anew layer for each item. \nREMEMBER \nMake sure to name your layers as you go. This will make moving your furniture around much easier.","cbCaieJHiiEJFqRS","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaieJHiiEJFqRS","pdf",13487573,17,"English","# Design a Tiny Home\n## What is a tiny home?\n## Brainstorm\n## Visualize your home\n## Measure it up\n## Drawing to scale\n## Set a scale\n## Take it further","[{\"question\":\"What skills do students practice when designing a tiny home in this lesson?\",\"answer\":\"Students use measurement and geometric principles to draw a floor plan to scale and calculate area.
