Intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC) is rarely reported as a malignancy secondary to DM. This work presents a clinical case of a middle-aged woman diagnosed with DM for 7 years who was later diagnosed with ICC. Machine learning analysis of DM- and ICC-related GEO datasets identified PARP12 and MT1M as closely associated with DM-associated ICC, suggesting their potential value as predictive biomarkers.","TYPE Case Report \nPUBLISHED 18 August 2023 \nDOI 10.3389/fonc.2023.1206043 \nOPEN ACCESS \nEDITED BY Alberto Brolese, APSS, Italy \nREVIEWED BY \nEmina Talakic, \nMedical University of Graz, Austria Vincenzo Neri, \nUniversity of Foggia, Italy \n*CORRESPONDENCE Bendong Chen \n [chenbendong@nxmu.edu.cn](chenbendong@nxmu.edu.cn) \n†These authors have contributed equally to this work and share first authorship \nRECEIVED 14 April 2023 \nACCEPTED 31 July 2023 \nPUBLISHED 18 August 2023 \nCITATION \nZhang X and Chen B (2023) \nDermatomyositis with intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma: a case report and data mining based on machine learning. However, cases of DM with intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC) are rarely reported. In the course of our clinical work, we encountered a case of a middle-aged female patient who was diagnosed with DM for 7 years and then diagnosed with ICC, and we would like to share this case. In addition, in order to further investigate the deeper mechanism of ICC associated with DM, we also analyzed the dataset related to DM and ICC in the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database based on the machine learning methods and found that poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase family member 12 (PARP12) and metallothionein 1M (MT1M) were closely associated with ICC secondary to DM. They are potentially important biomarkers for predicting the occurrence of ICC in patients with DM. \nKEYWORDS \ndermatomyositis, intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma, paraneoplastic dermatomyositis, PARP12, MT1M \nFrontiers in Oncology 01 [frontiersin.org](frontiersin.org) \nZhang and Chen 10.3389/fonc.2023.1206043 \nGRAPHICAL ABSTRACT \n1 Research background \nIntrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC) is one of the major pathological types of primary hepatic carcinoma, accounting for approximately 15%–20% of all primary hepatic carcinoma and occurring in the epithelial cells in secondary bile ducts and higher (1) . The main features of the disease are high heterogeneity, high invasiveness, and very poor prognosis. According to tumor epidemiological findings, the incidence of ICC has continued to increase in recent years and will remain at a certain increase for a longer period in the future (2) . The risk factors of ICC include chronic hepatitis, cirrhosis, biliary inflammatory diseases, sclerosing cholangitis, and intrahepatic bile duct stones. Up to now, surgical treatment is still the preferred treatment modality for ICC. In recent decades, with the continuous refinement of tumors and the development and iteration of medical technology, the treatment of ICC has been refined and diversified. Therapies such as adjuvant chemotherapy, targeted therapy, and immunotherapy have been applied to patients with advanced and metastatic ICC (3–5) . However, the treatment of ICC remains very tricky so far, which is related to the anatomical structure and the characteristics of the disease. Some studies show that for patients with resectable cholangiocarcinoma, the 5-year survival rate is approximately 10%–40%, while in unresectable cholangiocarcinoma, t","cbCaidr93IyypxXc","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaidr93IyypxXc","pdf",14135881,2,1,9,"English","en",105,"# Research background\n## Intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma overview\n## Dermatomyositis and malignancy risk\n## Rationale for the study\n# Case presentation\n## Patient presentation and diagnosis","[{\"question\":\"Why is ICC considered a rare complication of dermatomyositis?\",\"answer\":\"The paper notes that cases of DM accompanied by intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma are rarely reported compared with other malignancies observed in DM.\"},{\"question\":\"What clinical course was described in the case report?\",\"answer\":\"A 55-year-old woman was first diagnosed with dermatomyositis for 7 years and was subsequently diagnosed with intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma.\"},{\"question\":\"Which biomarkers were identified by machine learning as associated with DM-secondary ICC?\",\"answer\":\"Machine learning analysis of GEO datasets highlighted PARP12 and MT1M as closely associated with intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma occurring secondary to dermatomyositis.\"}]","Dermatomyositis with Intrahepatic Cholangiocarcinoma -
