The book outlines common causes linked to difficult life situations, poor sleep, eating habits, and alcohol or drug abuse. It describes behavioral and physical signs such as irritability, reduced interest in food, weight loss, low energy, concentration difficulty, sleep problems, persistent sadness, self-blame, and social withdrawal. It can range from being mild, to being quite disabling. It becomes a problem if it lasts more than two months. \nThere are several causes of depression. It may start with a life situation that is hard to deal with, by lack of sleep, or poor eating habits. And, alcohol or drug abuse is a definite cause. \nThe way a person reacts may signal a problem with depression. The person may be irritable, and not behaving normally. \nA person experiencing depression often loses interest in food, and experiences weight loss. \nA depressed person often experiences a loss of energy, and finds it difficult to concentrate. They may feel tired, but are unable to sleep. Or, they may sleep more than they should. \nSadness that continues for a long time, with a loss of interest in anything that the person enjoyed before, is a sign of depression. \nThe depressed person may feel worthless, and blame themselves for things that go wrong. The depressed usually wants to be alone all the time, and may think death is better. \nSo, what can you do if you are depressed, or if you have a friend or neighbor that is showing signs of depression? \nCan depression be prevented? \nFirst of all, eating a healthy diet is important for keeping our bodies strong. When we eat the right food, our bodies feel good, and our thinking is improved. Our diet should have protein every day. We get protein from eggs, fish, nuts, and dark green, leafy vegetables. Other important nutrients are found in beans, fruit, and cheese.","cbCaifikLw9vGsrr","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaifikLw9vGsrr","pdf",911599,1,17,"English","en",105,"# Understanding Depression\n## What Depression Is and When It Becomes a Problem\n## Common Causes\n## Signs and Symptoms\n# Preventing and Addressing Depression\n## Practical Steps for Mild Depression\n## Healthy Eating and Nutrients","[{\"question\":\"What makes depression a problem rather than a temporary mood?\",\"answer\":\"Depression becomes a problem when it lasts more than two months.
