Validity refers to the degree to which logic and evidence support the use of test scores for making critical decisions (e.g. , pass/fail, admission, placement, grouping, etc. ) concerning examinees. \nThis report presents the relationship among pre-dental grade point averages (GPAs), Dental Admission Test (DAT) scores, and academic, preclinical, and clinical achievements for a sample of students during their first and second year in United States dental schools. Correlation coefficients were used to understand the relationship between admission selection criteria (such as GPAs and DAT scores) and success in students’ first two years of dental education. \nThe DAT Program recognizes the importance placed upon the validity of the DAT. The value of a report of this nature is enhanced when the sample of study participants is large and representative of the population under study. In contrast, the value is diminished by low participation and low representativeness. In past reports, participating schools were identified by name. Beginning with the 2002 report, each school is identified by a code number. \nMethods \nData \nThis study used [data from 38 U.S. dental](data from 38 U.S. dental) schools to examine the degree to which DAT scoresand predental grade point averages (GPAs) predict student grades in the first and second years of dental school. The data used in this study were collected in two stages over a two-year period. In the fall of 2024, CODA-accredited [U.S. dental](U.S. dental) schools were invited to provide data for students who completed their first or second year of dental school during the 2023-2024 academic year. In the fall of 2025, schools were invited to provide data for students who completed their first or second year during the 2024-2025 academic year. Data from the two cohorts of first-year students were combined and used to study the correlations between DAT scores, predental GPAs, and grades in Year 1. Similarly, data from the two cohorts of secondyear students were combined and used to assess correlations with Year 2 grades. Dental schools that participated in the study were asked to provide the following student data. \nPredental Grades \nPredental Science GPA (4.0 scale): The grade point average calculated for all science courses taken by the student during their undergraduate years. \nPredental Overall GPA (4.0 scale): The grade point average calculated for all courses taken by the student during their undergraduate years. \nDAT Scores \nThe DAT scores achieved by the student prior to their admission to dental school. The following DAT subscores and composite scores were obtained for each student. \nDAT Subscores \n• Quantitative Reasoning \n• Reading ","cbCairTRAxrSy0fL","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCairTRAxrSy0fL","pdf",627136,34,"English","# Introduction\n# Methods\n## Data\n## Predental Grades\n## DAT Scores\n## Dental School Grades (Year 1)\n## Dental School Grades (Year 2)\n# Results\n# Limitations\n# Conclusions\n# References\n# Appendix A","[{\"question\":\"What does validity mean in the context of DAT?\",\"answer\":\"Validity refers to the extent that logic and evidence support using test scores for critical decisions such as admission-related outcomes.\"},{\"question\":\"What data sources were used for this validity study?\",\"answer\":\"The study used data from 38 U.S. dental schools collected in two stages over two years, combining cohorts for Year 1 and Year 2 analyses.\"},{\"question\":\"Which measures were compared to academic performance?\",\"answer\":\"The report examines relationships between DAT scores and predental GPAs, and compares them with dental school grades for Year 1 and Year 2.\"}]","Dental Admission Test (DAT) - Validity Study | PDF",86]
