history of all cases which were eligible for the deathpenalty in New Jersey since the re-enactment of capital punishmenton August 5,1982.Death eligibility was determined according tostandards set by the Special Master for the Proportionality ReviewProject.  These criteria are set forth in the Final Report of theSpecial Master for the New Jersey Proportionality Review Project tothe New Jersey Supreme Court.  \nThese summaries are based primarily upon the facts of eachcase as found in appellate opinions where available or as found inpre-sentence reports.   Where an appellate opinion is used torecount the facts,information in the presentence report relatingto the defendant's background is included at the end of thesummary.
