His death took only long enough for his brain to understand that no more blood would be forthcoming.  \nIt happened in an alley behind a drug-and alcohol-addiction rehab center in a strip mall in Paterson, New Jersey. A 911 call brought the police to the scene. They found Jason Maddox, the only resident of the center, coming out the back door, a cell phone in his hand. His dog, a Lab mix, obediently stayed at his side.  \nThere was no identification on the body, but Jason told the officers that the victim was Paul Vincent. He described Vincent as a close friend.  \nHomicide detectives arrived, spoke to Maddox, and had within an hour taken him to the station for questioning. An hour after that he was arrested for murder. I’m not really upset about the breakup because I have no idea who the hell Grant and Juliana are, and I certainly have no idea why anyone would care that they’ve broken up.  \nAccording to the subheading on one of the magazines, Juliana is not speaking publicly on the issue because she does not want to “add fuel to the fire,” so apparently the end of their relationship is important enough for there to be a fire.  \nShe also asks for privacy at this “difficult time,” though I have a feeling that Juliana’s places on these magazine covers have not come about because she’s spent her career, whatever career that is, avoiding attention.  \nWhat annoys me about this is that these magazines have anointed these people with first-name status, as if they are so popular that their surnames are not needed. Readers see their first names and apparently need no further identification.  \nAnd these two are not the only ones. An involuntary survey of the other magazines these last few weeks have shown me that such luminaries as Heidi and Spencer, Trista and Ryan, and Tom and Ariana are also granted this honor.  \nAnd there are plenty of others. It seems like these people break up and get back together every couple of hours, and magazine readers must lap it all up.  \nWho are these people? How did they get first-name famous without me knowing about it? I see Tom and I think of Brady, or Hanks. I see Spencer and I’m thinking Tracy.
