However, the same light that is such a blessing is keenly watched for portents by insidious forces who desire to begin a harvest of their own. When the harvest moon rises casting the light of a blood moon during a lunar eclipse, the Gray Coven, a coterie of Night Hags whose sole aim is to stamp out good and innocence wherever it is found, will seek to make their offerings to Shoarir, the Hag Lich of Hades. \nOne such harvest moon rose above the frontier village of Holmford thirty years ago. Nestled on an islet between Lake Lament and the Brindle River, Holmford was founded by deeply religious followers of St. Cuthbert who believed that prosperity would spring from their devotion to peace and justice. Within this hamlet, the Night Hags of the Gray Coven found a community isolated from the protection of a city or nation and completely unequipped to combat the evil of the coven. Naively, the settlers believed that their faith would guide them through any danger that threatened Holmford and it’s people. \nThe Gray Coven prepared for the coming of the blood moon years in advance. A Night Hag had come to the Hornwood, a vast forest north of Holmford, and planted a Seed of Blight. There she stayed in secret tending the seed, watching and waiting for Shoarir’s call. The seed grew into one of the Coven’s greatest devices of evil, the Cauldron of Blight which is used to make offerings to the Hag Lich. After a decade of waiting, the Night Hag saw the signs and knew the time had come to take her harvest from Holmford. \nThe Days of Blight, as it is known by the residents of Holmford, began nine days prior to the apex of the harvest moon. Even then the reddish hue of the moon began to reveal itself.
