As God allowed David to become more powerful, Israel’s army attacked Jerusalem and conquered the Jebusites who were living there.  \nJerusalem became known as the City of David. The king of Tyre sent timber and carpenters to build a house for David there.  \nDavid wanted to move the ark of the covenant from Kiriath Jearim to Jerusalem. After talking about his plans to all the people of Israel, they agreed that it seemed right to do this.  \nThe ark of the covenant was kept in the sacred place at the back of the tabernacle. God had told His people that the ark should be moved and carried only by the Levites.  \nHowever, David chose men from throughout Israel to bring the ark of the covenant to Jerusalem. He prepared a new cart pulled by oxen.
