Nearly every \ntype of geographic condition can be found within the vast expanse of the continent. These varied environments support habitats for both ordinary and extraordinary creatures. Many are widespread across the world—deer, oxen, rabbits, horses, foxes, hobgoblins, ogres, and giants. However, others are unique to DARK NIHON, such as pandas, tengu, oni, and water buffalo (caribou) . Some creatures commonly found in other regions have never set foot in DARK NIHON, kept away by violent seas, towering mountain ranges, and scorching deserts. \nAs a result, DARK NIHON is home to several creatures that are exclusive to its lands. These unique beings are included in the Bestiary section. \nThe lands of DARK NIHON are home to a wide variety of creatures, both ordinary and extraordinary. In this rich and diverse world, animals from across Asia can be found alongside unique hybrid creatures. These hybrids, though unusual in appearance, are still considered Beasts, existing naturally in the environment and interacting with the inhabitants of DARK NIHON like any other creature. Below is a categorized list of animals, including both common creatures and hybrid beasts that can be found in various regions of the continent: \nSub-Arctic Forests: Badgermole, bear, carp, deer, lynx, moose, mooselion, otter, owl, polar bear dog, polar-dog, rabbit, reindeer, roe deer, sable, salmon, snow fox, squirrel, stoat, sturgeon, tigerdillo, tiger, wolf, wolverine. \nTemperate Plain/Forest Regions: Badger, badgermole, bear, bustard, catgator, crane, deer, duck, fox, hawk, hedgehog, koalaotter, lynx, marten, otter, pheasant, rabbit, roe deer, sabertooth moose lion, sheep-pig, sparrowkeet, tiger, turtle-duck, weasel, wild ass, wild boar, wild ox, wildcat, wolf, wolverine, yak. \nSteppeland: Bactrian camel, badger, bear, deer, flying bison, fox, gazelle, giraffe-goat, horse, jerboa, lynx, marmot, otter, saiga antelope, sheep, wild boar, wild yak, wolf. \nSubtropical Forest Regions: Alligator, bear, black porpoise, buzzard-wasp, clouded leopard, civet, deer, elephant, eel hound, fox, fruit bat, gibbon, leopard, marten, monkey, otter, panda, pangolin, rhinoceros, river dolphin, tiger, water buffalo, wild boar, wolf. \nTropical Forest Regions: Badger, bushbaby, cassowary, civet, deer, elephant, fruit bat, guar, hog monkey, hornbill, kingfisher, leopard, marten, mongoose, monkey, orangutan, otter, parrot, peacock, pangolin, sun bear, tapir, tiger, water buffalo, wild boar. \nCold Oceans: Cod, elephant koi, halibut, killer whale, koalaotter, narwhal, salmon, sea otter, seal, walrus. arm Oceans: Dolphin, dolphin piranha, oysters, porpoise, and shark. \nMonsters in DARK NIHON generally follow the same classifications as in the Monster Manual—beasts, dragons, giants, humanoids, and fiends are all present. However, two new subtype modifiers—Darklands and spirit—are important for DARK NIHON rules. Like type modifiers in the Monster Manual (such as cold, fire, or incorporeal), creatures with the Darklands or spirit subtype retain their original type (such as fiend or fey) but also possess characteristics of their subtype. \nOni/Kami: These subtypes apply to the Fiend (oni) and Celestial (kami) types. Oni and kami are opposite forces: oni are corrupted kami who failed to protect their wards, leading to their banishment as bodiless spirits. When summoned or physically manifested, oni seek to dominate the living and indulge in the physical world. They despise kami, who remind them of their former selves. Oni typically take the forms of giants and are unique, while kami manifest in various shapes, especially when their wards are inanimate objects but their forms are consistent. Living kami wards, such as animals like wolves or boars, often resemble their base creature. You can apply the kami template to these creatures.
