In his or ginal story, Ar achne was a master weaver who was punished by the Goddess Minerva because Ar achne had won against her in a weaving contest. She was known, not for her wealth, but for her talent, spinning. Her spinning was known by many throughout the land. However, Arachne would not give thanks to the goddess Minerva forgiving her such a talent. No matter what the people said, Arachne would always deny that Minerva taught her spinning.  \nThis angered the goddess, so Minerva herself came down to Earth as an old woman to speak to Arachne. Minerva then said to her,” Knowledge comes with getting older. Heed my warning: Claim your fame among the mortals for your talent; however, give thanks to Minerva, ask for her forgiveness, and she will forgive.”  \nEven though Arachne was raised to respect her elders, she could not hold back her anger and the look of a dark anger over her face, and said,“You troubled old hag, long life has destroyed your mind. Let your daughter or daughter-in-law, if you even have one, listen to your drivel. I don’t need your advice, for I have enough wisdom of my own. If Minerva wishes for me to apologize, why does she not come herself?!”  \nThe goddess announced ‘She is here!’ then revealed her true self as the goddess Minerva. Everyone bowed in worship, but not Arachne. She stood unafraid in the face of the goddess. Both then quickly get their supplies and start working on their tapestry, the battle was on.  \nThe goddess worked on her tapestry, weaving in the twelve gods sitting on their majestic thrones. She shows Jupitar in the center as the king of the gods, next comes Neptune standing and striking rough stone with his trident, and then herself with a shield, spear, and helmet.  \nHowever, Arachne was working on a more disrespectful peace of tapestry. Her tapestry focused on the faults ofthe Gods and how terrible they were to women. She weaved every scene of Jupitar, Neptune, and even Bacchus forcing themselves on women throughout the ages. She showed how the Gods were horrible beings of power and the lack of respect she had for them.  \nThe battle was soon over and Arachne had won undisputedly. Minerva accepted her defeat and praised Arachne for her work. However, with that praise she said,“I punish you not for winning, but for being disrespectful to the Gods and to me asan elderly woman. One must respect their elders no matter who they are, wither they be related or not.
