Students will learn to think geographically by examining the “why of where”. Why things are located where they are and how place affects people and events. Topics include population, migration, culture, political organization of space, agriculture, urban development, and globalization. Through maps, data analysis, and case studies, students will build critical thinking skills and gain a deeper understanding of the connections between people and places. This course prepares students for the AP exam in May. \nThis course has three sections: AP Human Geography A is the first half of the class and includes Units 1-4. AP Human Geography B is the second half of the class and includes Units 5-7. AP Human Geography Y is the entire class and includes Units 1-7. \nClick HERE for the AP Human Geography Class Schedule which outlines the Units, Lessons, and Assessments for this course. \nClick HERE for the AP Human Geography College Board Course Exam Description. \nClass Outline \nUnit 1: Thinking Geographically \nIn this unit, students learn how to use maps and spatial data to understand patterns and relationshipson Earth. They explore key geographic concepts such as scale, place, and region. This unit builds the foundation for analyzing how humans interact with and impact their environments. \nUnit 2: Population and Migration Patterns and Processes \nIn this unit, students examine the distribution, composition, and growth of human populations across the globe. They explore the causes and consequences of population change and learn how population trends and migration shape societies and landscapes. \nUnit 3: Cultural Patterns and Processes \nIn this unit, students explore how culture shapes the way people live, interact, and organize space. They examine the distribution of languages, religions, and ethnicities, and analyze how cultural patterns spread and change over time. This unit helps students understand the role of culture in shaping human landscapes and identities. \nUnit 4: Political Patterns and Processes \nIn this unit, students analyze how political boundaries and governments shape the world. This unit helps students understand how power and territory influence human organization and interaction. \nUnit 5: Agriculture and Rural Land-Use Patterns and Processes \nIn this unit, students examine how agriculture shapes landscapes and supports human populations. They explore the origins and diffusion of agricultural practices, different types of farming, and the impact of technology and global markets on food production. This unit helps students understand the connections between agriculture, the environment, and economic development. \nUnit 6: Cities and Urban Land-Use Patterns and Processes \nIn this unit, students explore the development, structure, and functions of cities around the world. They examine urban models, patterns of land use, and the challenges cities face such as growth, sustainability, and social inequality. This unit helps students understand how urbanization shapes human experiences and the environment. \nUnit 7: Industrial and Economic Development Patterns and Processes \nIn this unit, students investigate how industrialization and economic development influence societies and landscapes.
